Eh up from Cheshire

Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Martin, in case that wasn't apparent

Not actually got a Z4 yet, but will be looking for a nice E86 in the new year, so thought I'd do some research first.

I currently have a mk2 MR2 as a bit of a toy, that I've had for four years, but I'm looking to replace it with something with more torque that is less likely to rust

The MR2 is on coilovers with some minor cosmetic and performance mods and I'd be looking to do similar with a Z4. Although, I may just go springs rather than coilies as it would be my daily and not just a weekend car.

Anyway, hello all and here's a couple of photos of the '2 (hope they don't offend :D ).

Cheers,

Martin

Hi. Good luck with the search.

I think you have made a mistake in your posting. You typed "E86" but surely you meant "E85"?

Welcome to the forum Martin

Thats a very nice looking mk2 MR2 you have, you won't regret getting an upgrade to a zed, although you might regret getting an E86 as you can't lower the roof. :driving:

Thanks for the welcomes

I think I'll miss the mid-engined handling a little at first, but not for long

Definitely looking for an E86, though. Not fussed about open top motoring, I like some metal over my head

hello and welcome, the coupe is definitely the incorrect car, it's not very popular :)
I've fixed your post for you - no need to thank me...

I'd have considered an E85 if there was a hard top available, but as it doesn't appear that it was an option, so E86 it is. Also, isn't it twice as stiff? (Or is that something I shouldn't mention? )

You can pick up a hard top for an E85 fairly easily if you want.

Not really, the E86 is stiffer, but the E85 was designed as a roadster from the ground up, and appeared years before the coupe, so it's not like a lot of drop-tops that were originally designed as a coupe and then needed additional strengthening to compensate for the removal of the roof.

They look good as well when fitted http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&p=1012988
Ah! Now I see it, I realise I have seen them before! It does look good

Yeah, I realise that and it's not like I plan on going racing. I kinda just like tin tops, I guess :D

I continue to lust after this hard top:

No idea how much they are as it's rather academic at present, having spent all of my car vouchers for this year.

Sold it about 6 or 7 years ago now, it ended up in Sweden, as did my Supra.

Ah, interesting. They do seem to have a decent following in Scandinavia. Odd really, they can be pretty terrifying when it's slippy! :D

Mine was only an N/A to start with but I had that engine out and a turbo engine fitted which made it scary at times in the wet.

Mine's only an NA, but before I changed the tyres/suspension, it bit me a couple of times :)
