Whats really sad is that with the dictator in place the country was under control.... Ideology of the west saying dictatorships are bad... When infact iraq was also better off before also.

Yes indeed, unless of course you were the one of many Shia or Kurds that were gassed, shot, raped, tortured by the ruling elite :poke:

Mursi wasn't an extremist, but he was reintegrating religion into the state. That made people uneasy but ey elected him knowing he would do this. What really got them on the street was he wasn't as inclusive as he said he'd be and was completely inexperienced/incompetent. The biggest concern is that he was democratically elected and has been ousted in no time at all while every other country stands by and watches. Not good.

I disagree about him not being an extremist. He may not have been an outspoken one but his silences have been deafening and his attendance at rallies and meetings have shown he supports extremism. He has been careful to keep silent but that doesn't mean he doesn't support extremism.

I agree about his inexperience and your point about him being ousted.
I said from the beginning that the Egyptian people have felt oppressed for so long and overthrowing Mubarak gave them a huge set of balls. They now feel that they can move mountains with their people power and this sort of thing will be a constant over the coming years I think.

It's just another country in that region for external extremists to stir it all up and do their worst. That's the worrying aspect in the Middle East to maximise chaos.

Tim.

I was not... But i have egyptian cousins + my best friend is iraqi so i know somewhat what i am talking about.

Fortunately my iraqi friends family emigrated here during the first world war, and my egyptian cousins are safe in saudi...

The western media portrays such a bad image of these dictators... Sure they do unlawful things... Families go missing in the night for looking the wrong way at the people in charge.. However northern ireland wasnt so different 20 years ago. Also on the whole people felt safer before then now. The west isnt any leas corrupt... Except it behind closed doors.

My cousins certainly never felt scared in Egypt before, and my friends describe how beautiful full of greenery and peaceful Iraqi was before.

I don't think Ireland is a fair comparison. The only ordinary people who went missing were the victims of terrorists, republican or loyalist.

I've got Iranian and Iraqi friends too, they tell a very different story. I guess it depends on what side of the fence they sat when they were there. I wasn't there so can't really comment, I'm just glad my friends are alive and well.

The sooner religion and politics are separated completely the better. If you're religious, be a person of faith and live by the tenets of your faith (if they don't hurt someone else) but don't expect me to sign up.

I have a friend who is Iraqi and a British-trained medical doctor who received more physical and psychological abuse in 48 hours at the hands of US customs officials at LAX when in transit from London to Auckland in December 2001 than he did in twenty years of living in Iraq

Yep, a previous boss was Iranian, a multi millionaire and refused point blank to travel to the USA because of all the problems at immigration. A Saudi member of my team was detained 48 hours at the border despite travelling on a valid Canadian passport because his name matched that of a person of interest. His name would be similar to John Smith in English. He arrived at our meeting, shook hands and went home : headbang:
