Egypt

What a mess, especially in Cairo, they can kiss goodbye to their Tourism trade now. Looks to me the Middle East is slowly falling apart, worrying how far all this will spread

When the troubles first kicked off then died down, we went for a holiday in Sharm and there were no troubles what so ever! Indeed it was fantastic as it seemed that it was only brits that were still allowed to travel to Egypt.

Isn't it the same everywhere? Remove a dictator and "the people" make a complete mess of it. Some countries are just best left alone as they can't govern themselves.

agreed -

I think you'll find they had a democratic election however those "in power" realised that they were loosing money so they wanted to go back to to the old way of doing things!
Get the Army in :o

For now but the unrest seems to spreading, I thought there were a load brits stuck in their hotels somewhere.

Thats in Hurghada. I have quite a few friends in Egypt. Breaks my heart to see what's unfolding there.

Agree Carol I went to Egypt years ago on me hols probably why it hits a note more so than the other Countries in that region.

Very sad. Back in the 1970's I spent some time I Cairo and travelled the Nile by train and boat down to Aswan and back, an unforgettable experience.

Such a beautiful country with so much culture, I hope democracy prevails and it doesn't fall Into the hands of Islamic extremists.

You say that Carol, but it was a national vote....if you think it was rigged, why is there now so much unrest with masses wanting him back in power.....

I didn't say it was rigged. Where did i say i thought it was rigged?
I'm sure it was a legitimate democratic election.
Mursi was head of the Freedom and Justice Islamist party and as the majority of Egyptians are Muslims he naturally got voted into power.
He clearly is an extremist and the anti extremists have ousted him, rightly or wrongly.

Sorry, was just curious about your views on Mursi, and assumed you thought he got in via the back door...

But now so many would want him back in....it's beyond belief.

Do you think if we took to the streets we cold have ousted Gordon Brown any sooner??? Could it happen here??

The people that want him back in are the people that voted him there in the first place, Muslims.
They aren't the ones that took to the streets to oust him.
They have come out against the people that got him thrown out and that's why the clashes are going on.

Adam, it makes me sad too. I worry for my friends.
