eeek, my wallet hurts

OK, bit of an update...

Took it down to National tyres this morning...

Brakes - they agreed that the discs are lipped and scored but say there is no need to replace right now as there is still plenty of braking surface and the pads still have a fair bit of wear left. Reckoned I may get another 10k out of them. So Ill start saving up for the job now and probably replace later in the year.

The puncture... they advised to replace asap as the screw could fly out. I Didn't want them to remove the screw because their price for the tyres just isn't competitive etc (£305 vs £250 through Black Circles). Got home and took a real close look at the screw.... had actually gone in at an angle... prised it out... turns out it was just 0.5" long and had just gone into a tread block and not actually punctured the tyre :D tread on my rears is now just over 3mm so still no rush to replace - probably replace them before our holiday in July. Another one to save for :)

Bushes... neither National or Kwit-fit would look at them :( claimed that they wouldn't know what to look for and wouldn't want to touch it due to the realignment issues that could result. Have to seek further opinion somewhere else or try my local dealer...

Got the air-con recharged at Kwik-fit for £45... (the dealer charge for this would have been £43...)

So from an initial £105 + oil, oil service.... cost £150 + oil (added microfilter to the service).... and a quote for nearly £1700 worth of work.... I've so far only had to part with £45... Guess they don't call 'em stealers for nothing...

Case of buyer beware with Berry Chiswick it seems...

That would make sense. I changed mine at 30K and you're not far off being 10K away from 60K.

Depend how much you use to be honest, I got through pads and discs all round in 19k on my old E46, BMW picked up the bill though as it was all service inclusive.

I use different roads in the Z4 now, and after 25K there is still lots of life, tyres also lasting longer, 16k all round in the E46, oonly had to replace the rears at 19K on the Z4 with fronts having 6mm left.

My E46 was the same 20K and new fitted new discs, all covered under the service packs, I was a little surprised but didn't care because I was not picking up the tab. Im sure they had more life in them tho. My Z is currently on 34000 and requires a service in 4000 miles and a brake fluid change which is over due, I assume there going to say my disc/pads will need replacing
 
They recommended that the air-con service should be done every 2 years but then said 'like the brake fluid change its up to you and not essential' so missing your brake fluid change isnt critical I dont think...

Brake longevity is entirely subjective as well though... two drivers over the same roads can wear their brakes in different ways - ie one will plan better than the other and as a result use acceleration sense etc to slow the car rather than using the brakes all the time.

Ive no idea with mine when the discs may have been changed, I suspect there was new pads when I bought the car at 26k just over 3 years ago...
