Hi guys, new poster here but been lurking for a while now.

I'm looking at picking up a Z soon but have a few questions on the spec that I haven't been able to find using search.

1. What cars come with a sport button as standard? Have most cars got them or is it limited to just the 3.0i/si and the rest are optional?

2. Is it only the 3.0 motors that come with 6-speed boxes? Does the 2.5si have a 5 speed?

3. How much difference is there in the carver system over the bog standard one. Worth holding out for one?

I'm looking at the moment for a black or stirling grey 3.0i/si or a 2.5si sport. Ideally with Carver if it's worth it, 108s, Xenons and PDC. Will be dealer purchased too so I can get the AUC warranty.

I'm sure I'll think of more but form what I see there's not shortage of info on here. A top forum with some top posters!

Welcome to the forum.

1. Pre-facelift 3.0 and facelift 2.5si/3.0si have sport button. It was not an optional equipment.
2. Facelift 2.5si is fitted with 6-speed manual as standard.
3. Not sure.

hi,

3. in some ways i wish i did, but then again there are a lot of aftermarket options, which i'll be doing at some point in the future.

if your going for the facelift then just go for the si models. personally i would stick with the 3.0. i was also opting for either the 2.5 or 3.0 and i'm glad i got the 3.0 in the end. :driving:

you should note that 108's are prone to corrosion.

another thing you might want to consider is that there are also some good aftermarket PDC's which are not visible on the bumpers. have a search - it's been covered on the forum.

Personally I wasn't overly concerned about the stereo - have the roof down too much :driving:
EDIT: I don't have the roof down as much as I would like, but that's still too much to appreciate a decent stereo! Also, the thing I liked with mine was the ease of adding a proper iPod adapter with head unit display.

In general this might help with any questions - also what you can easily retro fit:

Good luck with the search

EDIT... and welcome to the forum!

(Sorry for the EDITs was initially responding when a CoD Deathmatch started :guns: )

Welcome

Just to add to what the folks above has said, I wouldn't let something like the lack of Carver put you off a car if everything else is good. I've got the basic system and at first thought it was a bit crap, but it's not that bad plus I'd rather hear the engine. If I spent more time in the car it might hack me off, but in some wasy then it's better having the non-Carver system because I believe it's easier to upgrade it from that.

Yeah I suppose there is the upgrade option. I am going from a LR Freelander 2 that had the Alpine stereo and loved that but my other half's 118d with just the Professional stereo is a bit weak in comparison. Going to test drive a 2.5si tomorrow so will see what that has and see how I like it.

I have the carver stereo and i think it is good... but you could fit an amp and sub for just over £150 for the same i'd imagine.

Many thanks!

Feel like I've been here a while mind you, lurking in the shadows, learning and drooling over some of your awesome Zs!

Looking forward to getting one now and getting some stuff done to it. :w00t:

Just a thought actually.. are there many major spec differences between the 2.5si and the pre-facelift 3.0i? Other than the obvious engine and cosmetic differences, I assume the M-Sport suspension and the MP3 head unit. Anything else such as things that were introduced in the facelift models? Thinking about the things that came as standard on the pre-facelift 3.0i over the smaller engined pre-facelift Zeds, 6 speed box, sound pipe to the cabin etc... anything of that ilk transfer over to the facelift models?

I'm inkling towards a 2.5si as I think the facelift just looks a bit fresher. Plus the missus likes the look of it better but if the older 3.0i has significant spec advantages over the 2.5si then I will go that way. The 3.0si is probably a little out of my price range at the mo I think unless by some chance I find one right in budget (circa £15k minus whatever dealer discount I can get incidentally)

Actually there's another question. When we bought the 118d from Sycamore in Peterborough we got £500 off it without even having to ask twice.. how much do people normally get off approved used cars?

Sorry for all the questions but why guess when you have a panel of experts! Hopefully sometime soon I'll be in a position to help others too! :)

my only issue with the Zed is the bog standard radio, it will not show ID tags on my Cd's

i've looked into ftting an after market radion but know one can offer an after market radion that will also allow full control from the steering will (telephone functions)

Well no joy. The car I wanted to look at was in the bodyshop and the only other Z they had had just been sold so I couldn't play. Back to asking for advice then!
