Hi

Was thinking of heading up to Edinburgh Hogmonay street party for NYE this year with the wife. Never been before. Has anyone been or got any recommendations on hotels for 1 or 2 nights or good companies to use for packages? Flights from london are cheap as chips at £60

Cheers

I have been twice, the first time I went I couldn't believe how Crap it was so went a second time just to make sure it was crap and it wasn't just me, You are crammed in can not move and it is F**KING Freezing, as soon as the bells have gone the Police try to clear the streets as quickly as possible.
For any hotel or B&B in Edinburgh you will pay Top dollar at that time of year even for the worst of them.
On a more political note, I wouldn't give the council any of your hard earned ££££, they will just waste it on dumb ass tram projects that fail or something similar.

Sorry to sound so negative about it, and if you do go I hope you have a great time.

The Glasshouse, it's very close to everything - prices may be higher for New Year though.

It would be funny it was not such a very very very expensive farce

Have to agree with the Dour bugger statement though

We've only been to the street party the once when we had tickets to see Moby at the Castle. We enjoyed it, although we were a bunch of pissed students at the time :-). Most other years we've gone for a meal or gone to the pubs then stood somewhere outside the cordon with a bottle of bubbly. There's usually a good number of people doing the same! The fireworks are well worth seeing though. While your up the Christmas fair & big wheel are an easy way to spend a couple of hours one evening.

As for hotels, book them quick - the price goes up and availability drops quickly. Do you have tickets for the street party? They're usually done by a ballot.

As far trams - f'in disgrace. Noticed last time that I was in Princes Street it's almost been put back together for the first time in a few years.

lol, thanks for the pointers, very useful and possibly if we do it, we will avoid the cordoned area as suggested. Cheers
