Sometimes a slight fluctuation, but settles within a second or so.
I have always put the car straight into sport mode as i always find it would hesitate a bit in normal when cold, just thought me not giving it enough accelerator in normal mode. Wondered if the servo motor was slightly in wrong position giving the difference on the code reader.
Looking at YT fixes you need be careful not to lose it's settings when removed. I have never touched it.
I will run the reader again, see what comes up.

Another thing which might have a strange association, oil in the spark plug hole below that motor.
There was a drop last year when i changed the plugs.
Seal might be leaking, the motor might be loose.
Motor told to go 28 but sensor only seeing 23 degrees.

I would say the oil is a symptom related to this, as is the vanos code.

Which engine do you have?

23i with the N52.
Should say i assume the computer is asking for 28 but the feed back sensor only showing 23.
Funny how little things come together, on start i sometimes smell unburnt fuel, if i let engine warm up for 3-4 minutes then pull away it runs like the mixture is too rich. I sometimes blip the throttle to clear, more out of annoyance.
I wonder if that is all connected.

I’ve read that the valvtronic motor self calibrates when installed, i don’t think you have to install it in a particular position.
Does your sensor connection have oil inside it? They usually malfunction when that occurs.

Well on that learning curve from YT videos.
Will need to look at a few things.
Yes seen the contaminated ecc. sensors on vids.

The engine will run if the sensor is disconnected the valve lift stays in a “halfway house” position, if the stumble disappears it points at the sensor.

No codes just playing with the functions of the Foxwell reader, some real time data can be seen.
But might be early sign something is going wrong.

I have read online that a good helping of fuel cleaner and a decent drive can help if there is no obvious mechanical issue.

If you have oil where it shouldnt be, thats probably the place to start!

This post relates to an e85 but it’s fitted with an n52 engine so still relevant https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=127004
