Ebola, time for a lockdown on travellers from West Africa

Definitely not driving and email / text - it's a pet hate!
Hands free in all our cars.
Good! I'm curious as to how many life's wouldn't be here today without Bluetooth/hands free in cars. It would be a large quantity if I had to guess.

I can't help thinking it would be great if we could drop it on the Islamic state in stead of bombing them

I spoke to a lady some years ago who's husband had been killed by a driver using a mobile. I don't think you could quantify her grief.

The couple had recently retired and we're looking forward to many years of life together until the chap was killed.

It's definitely getting to be a worry.
I think all travel out of the heavily affected countries should be stopped. I know the logistics & practicalities of that are difficult to say the least but imo I think it's the only way.

A friend of my wife has just gone for a thee week holiday to The Gambia !
He will not be contacted until a month after his return .
An idiot first class!

A little bit of light relief.....saw this today and it made me chuckle.

The Zimbabwe Cricket Board have just announced that they have discovered Ebola in their cricket team, but this has not caused any concern since they also found ebatsmen and efielder.

why?

Why is he an idiot? Going to The Gambia ? Not being contacted?

Update!
He's going for five weeks. Ok there have been no gov warnings but some common savvy should be used.

yes the gambia has had no cases of ebola, it has no land borders with guinea, it has closed all air border with infected countries, sengal is about to come out of quarantine (tomorrow as is Niger) and the case there was excluded anyway. and most importantly is he actually going to come into contact with anyone with ebola its not air born you have to have decent fluid contact so unless hes actually going to help the aid effort or is shagging about (in which case hes more likley to get hep/hiv) then hes probably got more chance of giving you flue ???? highly unlikely given the restrictions to travel.

who have already admitted the impact to western countries is being overplayed due to much better infrastructure. I could understand you being concerned if he was traveling to infected places but hes likely to be well over 1000 km from know infection.

Suited health care workers in Europe and USA have been infected - I'm sure they weren't being intimate with their patients.

You do speak confidently that The Gambia is currently an Ebola free area but if it's managed to get from west Africa to Europe and the USA then a line in the ground won't stop it.

I won't be booking my trip any time soon, will you?

the cases in USA have been aid workers (missionaries and the like) that have been airlifted back to the respective country for treatment as they would get better care, in the case of the spanish nurse the suit didn't fail either she didn't follow procedure properly when removing it or the suit was not on properly. either way it was poor lab practice. how come everyone in country helping out isn't infected and dying?

look at the guy that got bought back to England hes fine now and no one contracted it, the royal free hospital dealt with it properly and all were ok.

i think the media is doing a great job of riling people up and making it out to be one sneeze and were doomed senario. a bit like the scare stories of you catching Aids off a toilet seat in the 80's. i worked next to a group of people who dealt with live HIV/HEP-C samples from many of the west african countries, they had deliveries in boxes 1m^3 and did all sorts of stuff and i never got it. why? because we had good lab practice and it wasnt airborn. its easy to fail at this sort of stuff, a good example many people can relate to is they chop chilly and then rub an itch on their eye and next thing are in pain. its easy done in labs you have to be very diligent, it takes practice.

dont get me wrong, precaution needs to be taken its a nasty disease that needs to be sorted out before it gets entrenched but you have to remember some of these countries people are dying from disease we don't even think about here becuse they are so poor (mentally poor to the point we couldn't even comprehend), have totally inadequate or non existent health care and don't understand simple ways to prevent infection so stuff like this runs rife.

yes given the chance i would still go to some of the west african countries. Ghana, gambia. would i go ebola places no im not daft but proven to be safe places yeah why not.

Like they did with Asian flu, SARS, Swine Flu and all the others that were going to wipe half the world's population.

To be fair, if the media are revving the scenario up then it keeps the precautions a little higher in people's minds so we don't become blasé about it!

I think the screening being mentioned on the news is just hype to make the public feel that something is being done.

Remember the news saying all electronic devices must be switched on at airport security? Recently been to US and wasn't asked at Gatwick or Orlando. Then did internal flight to NYC and wasn't asked there either. Just for show I reckon.

How do they screen at the airport anyway?

you wasn't asked because its now been approved safe.
