I got the BMcables package and it installed fine with all programs talking to the car OK, but despite being fairly competent with tech I've not got very far with the coding, plug-and-play it aint :(

What Windows do u use? Do u charge the laptop when u diagnose?

I've got it on an old Vista laptop which I used on mains. The Cable and software package all works fine it's just my understanding (and confidence) of using the various programs that's lacking. As I said much of it involves 'proper' coding rather than a simple user interface, I backed out once I realised how easy it was to wipe or delete modules by accident. But many people use the kit without problems so it's clearly me :)

I got the cable from bmcables on ebay. I actually had no luck with windows 7 32bit or windows xp 32 bit. I tried 3 fresh installs of windows and installed the painfully slow install on each (takes a few hours).

Couldn't get anything to work. No anti virus, no firewall, played about with settings and nothing. I have worked in IT for 14 years and I have up. Until I saw a recent thread on here about using 64 bit windows 7.

I installed 64 bit win7, again as a fresh install, then ran through the bmcables install DVDs again and hey presto every program works. They all talked to the car fine, I now just need to learn how to use them properly.

This pretty much sums up my experience too, having gone through 2 clean Vista installs, XP, then Win 7 64bit it finally worked - all installs using the same host PC.

Given the flaky nature of getting this work I wonder if its just a fluke & if I were to reinstall again in an identical manor whether it would work again - not that I'm intending to given that (a) it works now & (b) the hours it takes to install.

Luckily the laptop that this is installed on is dedicated to this software suite & not used for anything else.
