Maybe it's just me, but I have an issue with cars like this.

If I was buying a 3.0Si to use I'd buy one with maybe twice the mileage for thousands less, as putting miles on one like this would kill its value. And if I wasn't planning to use it I wouldn't be buying one!

And now I'm on my 3rd Coupe, for that sort of money I'd be looking for an MC. :)

Once my RS is gone I really want my first Coupe.

I disagree, that’s good value. You could put 20,000 on that and it would still be worth £12,500. That’s good depreciation. Or it’s low enough mileage to be put away and you’d lose nothing on it. And frankly I’d rather have a 28k mile 3.0Si than a 100k mile Z4M for the same money, but that’s just a matter of preference.

There are a couple of things that make me suspicious about this car though:
1. “selling on behalf of a friend” - really?
2. “has covered just 23,759 miles from new” - clearly now on 28,000, is this an old advert?
3. “over £2500 recently spent” - a car this good, what would you spend the money on?
4. “serviced at BMW main dealers only in accordance with Condition Based Servicing” - that means one or two services in 16 years

This could be a gem . . . but tread carefully.

I'm not convinced, but then I can't understand this obsession with low mileage in the UK. :?

I'm on my 3rd 3 Series with over 100k miles and they have all driven just fine, one with an M54 and two with the N52 engine. Parts like the cam-cover gasket and oil filter housing gasket surely deteriorate with age not mileage, and probably deteriorate quicker on a car that is rarely used.

I'd be disappointed losing £3k for 20,000 miles on a car of this age, and why would you buy it just to put it away? That would be sad!

Admittedly I got lucky with timing and circumstances but my MC on 76K miles cost less than that in late 2019, and I know what I'd rather have. :D

Pfft what would you spend money on on a car that low mileage? Like all the perished bushes and other rubber items, seized brakes from underuse, hvas knackered from lack of oil circulating on a regular basis, tyres perished. God knows.

s**t these cars weren't designed to sit, they were designed to be driven. Sitting is literally the worst thing for them.

So yes, that's not great value because I'd be prepared to bet a £2800 bill is the tip of the iceberg for someone wanting to actually use it properly.

You people just aren't trying!

My Z is the first car I've bought at under 100k in 16 years. The E36 before that went from 80 to 160k. I find it odd looking at what people spend on things but not get the value from; Cars, phones, tech in general. Most things will lose value as time rolls on and you've got to be lucky to own a depreciation proof asset.

With my E46 and E53 they work for their keep. And, per mile, they haven't cost a fortune. The thought of working out that I'd lost 75p per mile (roughly what that coupe has cost someone) would drive me mad!

Hmmm.......I had the 13k miles, 2008 cayman I recently bought thoroughly checked over and it needed absolutely nothing replaced/fixed. All bushes, tyres etc are all spot on. I think where the car has been stored all its days has a lot to do with it too. As said previously, you could do 20k in that and still get strong money back on it.

Parked outside, it is time that kills it. Parked inside, it is mileage that kills it.

The advert would appear to have been edited - presumably the person who listed it is on here?

I bought my 2007 car in 2016 with 32K miles on the clock. In 2020 I had to have a new sump fitted because of corrosion issues causing oil leakages.
I often wonder if this state of affairs was bought about to some extent by the car spending too much time sitting unused in a damp environment in its first few years :idunno: .

Nice looking car but alarm bells ringing over "selling for a friend". Could be genuine but then again.......
