I wanted to avoid the whole stretch tyre can o' worms, yes i agree it can be taken too far and looks daft/may compromise safety but the sort of stretch i was refering too is within the permitted tolerance of the tyre manufacturer with reference to rim width. This varys brand by brand but as long as I am using their product withing their guidelines I can see it standing as a reason to infulence a potential insurance scenario.
At this moment in time stretched tyres are not illegal and wont be reason to fail an MOT, the reason they are used is to provide additional clearance on wider alloys or lowered cars as it moves the tread inboard away from where it may otherwise contact the arch. The MOT requirement is that the tread is within the arch not the actual wheel.
This all may infact be irelevent as I mentioned above im considering using the front size 8J wheels all round with correct 225 40 tyres (i.e. no stretch) depending on how it looks.
