eBay Advice

Hey Guys,

Basically I sold a hair product on eBay (wrapped very well too) and they buyer said they received it damaged and it spilt everywhere. I offered a full refund once I received the product back or photos but they told me it had already been binned! So basically no proof, no photos, no nothing. They took it up with eBay and eBay refunded them!

Is it just me, or is this not right? What do you guys think?

always put optional insurance on the postage - if they dont take it then its their loss if anything goes wrong

Good God, if my mates who rip the p*ss out of me for driving a hairdresser's car saw this thread, they'd have a field day...

Take it up with e bay! Not suggesting its a fiddle but certainly looks that way

Ebay will always side with the buyer, same with paypal. Unless you can prove that you sent it and it arrived in good condition, then the buyer will win this one. The only way to do this is to do it with tracked post that they have to sign for.

As you won't be able to prove it arrived in good condition, but the buyer can prove they paid - ebay will side with buyer. You can open a case with ebay and dispute it, but I've never heard of anyone overturning a decision without proof of postage and delivery.

Unless it's a big amount, just put it down to experience and track all items next time - if people won't pay postage it's their problem

It isn’t really about the money; it’s more about the principle.

I don’t see why I don’t order a new iPhone and tell them when it arrived it was smashed so I threw it in the bin and I demand a refund!

eBay decided to refund her but I don’t want to drop it – now its personal!

Same kinda thing happened to my brother. He sent someone an iPhone, and they "returned" it, he opened the box and inside was a bar of soap I s**t you not. Ebay gave his money back to the "buyer" and I'm sure they then moved onto their next victim.

makes you think twice about selling on ebay ever again. especially with the rates they hit you to sell in the first place...

It can be great but when it goes wrong there is little you can do.

I empathise, I sold a technical manual with CD, the buyer claimed the CD would not work (which was boll***s) he demanded a refund but refused to pay the return postage. I raised it with ebay who found in my favour but still refunded him!!?

Although I wasn't as wronged as Marsellus in Pulp Fiction, the line about "going to work with pliars and blowtorch" did spring to mind at one stage. (Marsellus wasn't a plumber)

Since this happened (I'm the brother) I just won't touch ebay ever again. I was stung for £300 and there was sod all I could do. Ebay/paypal are total thieves. You'd also think if money was refunded I'd get the listing/final value/paypal fee's paid back to me?! Nope!
