Easy upgrade from Halogen headlights

For those who don't know, the projectors using H7 halogen bulbs can be replaced with EVOX-R D2S HID projectors without removing the headlights from the car. Just as you would replace bulbs, you can open up the cover and take the entire projector out and replace it with another projector. In the case of the EVOx-r, its a direct swap that can be replaced with 4 nuts holding the projector in. The results are amazing, if anyone would like to see the headlight output now, I can record a video on GoPro and upload it to YouTube.

No, this doesn't have auto leveling, but here in the US, fitting a proper HID projector in is many steps above and beyond people throwing HID kits into their halogen bulb designed headlights.

The cutoff is now crisp, and the projectors have built in solenoid which activates high beams which are spliced into the original high beams.

Posting this here because I couldn't find much information about headlight upgrades other than replacing entire housings.

At a glance they look way better than dropping a retrofit HID bulb into a halogen housing. Should overcome the inevitable incorrect focus and light scatter that such simple bulb swaps create.

In terms of MOT then it will pass or fail the same as retrofit HID based around the lack of self levelling, need for washers, etc., so to a large extent all down to what the tester's attitude to such is. For now I'd suggest most will pass them. Not sure if the beam will be OK for UK though as they are US so will have no left 'flick'

Mind my ignorance, but how strict is your MOT? Must make it pretty hard to do any mods to the car.

My guess is that it wouldn't pass MOT if the inspection is as in depth as I've read in my time on this forum.

My understanding is, if you have factory fitted HID you must have working headlamp wash system and levelling systems both working. Retro fit does not require this as it wasn't fitted from factory. I've read a lot about this and is a bit of a grey area but ultimately it will be down to your MOT tester.

Is this video accurate? How often do you guys have to get MOT inspection and how much does it cost?

Video is accurate but remember the tester will do much if this stuff in seconds Va the way the guy is explaining each item.

Test is annual and around £50.

The challenge is that much is the testers opinion I.e. is a brake pipe sound. Slight rusting so an advisory or rusting so a fail. That where the lights become a challenge.

Frankly I'm glad the test is tough as it keeps poorly maintained cars off the road..

Something many people get wrong about MOT regulations with regards Xenon HIDs, there is actually nothing that says you have to have self levelling lights or headlight washers:
It does however state that if they are present they must be working.

The reason for this is that a fairly large amount of cars fitted with xenons as standard do not come with these features.

The majority of MOT testers ignore xenon conversions providing that they aren't ridiculously blinding or have a silly amount of light scatter in the wrong places. One big downfall to HID kits is that the headlamp has "H7" stamped on it and with a retrofit HID kit, it's fairly obvious that one has been installed.
