Looking forward to receiving these & getting them painted up :). Any recommendations for a suitable spray primer for PLA?

I just used Halfords brand primer when I’ve sprayed PLA car parts before. You can get some that are heavy or high build which I imagine would make it easier to get rid of the layer lines. I’m sure thanatu55 will pitch in with what he did soon enough as his looks great 👍🏻

Standard surface primer is fine. Just get a decent topcoat, I tried a no-brand mix and it dried terrible, used this instead https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Genu...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 to get a perfect finish.

I've done one of the door ones now but it's chucking it down atm so can't get a photo up yet.

Thanks for the info guys . I did wonder if I needed a special plastic primer but it seems not. Your boot lock one looks superb thanatu55. Looking forward to seeing the door locks.
Just ordered Sterling Grey spray paint, thanks thanatu55 . Not sure when I'll get to do the painting though as it's getting a bit cold outside & I'm not sure Mrs oldgit would like me spray painting in the kitchen :violent1: . Might need to wait until the spring when my Zed comes out of hibernation. Can't wait :driving: .

Put the paint in warm water for a bit and stick the blanks to a box with some bluetack. Carry outside, spray, bring back in to dry. Job done, no unhappy wife.

I managed to make a bit of space in my incredibly packed garage. Lay a few sheets down to protect all the garage junk and spray 'til your heart's content!

I am hoping mine get printed in black, saves me the hassle :D

Hate to burst your bubble but I’ve only silver left atm - unless you don’t mind waiting an extra week... I have black PLA on order and should arrive mid week ish hopefully. Although you’d still want to smooth it really due to the 3D printing layer lines.

It's ok, was only kidding. :)

Your idea + my 3D Printer and (albeit simple and quick) design - It's the little things like this that make me love having a 3D Printer.

Any chance I/we could use the printer for a project? I've got a STL file at the moment that might need some modifying. Can you PM me your email address? So we can discuss? :)

Just to update everyone, I have posted out all the orders today... I will PM everyone with their tracking number later this evening.

I bought a load of padded envelopes to post these so that hopefully if you have a nice postman he'll just stick in through the letterbox without needing a signature (or signing on your behalf).

Please do confirm safe delivery once received. Cheers all. Any problems, get in touch via PM

 looking forward to finally hiding the boot lock :D

I look forward to seeing yours and everyone else's :driving:

I posted them all Wednesday... and I think most arrived today so that's pretty quick! They arrived before I'd even got around to sending everyone their tracking numbers

Yep, got mine this morning & got the tracking number later this afternoon :P. No problem though they look really good, plenty of spares too  . Looking forward to getting them painted up & fitted now. Will take Z4 Gaz's & thanatu55's advice & try to find somewhere warm enough to do them now it's getting a bit cold outside.
I work with 3d printed hardware in the aero industry & it's just amazing how far this technology has come on recent years. Thanks thanatu55 & IAmOrion for this, I'll post pics up once fitted :D .

Not sure how I got this kind of matte look on the camera but I thought it looked a bit 'arty' with a nice shot of the lock delete 8)
