Eastern BMW Edinburgh - Updated

Was along there today to pick up the zed. They could do with a few extra service staff. Took them 40 minutes from reception to seeing a service dept member of staff. Either under staffed or a cynical ploy to make you end up looking at new cars. There's a nice Z4MC there, 57 plate I think it was, only 7500 miles on it.
Won't be going back though, Stirling seemed to be so much quicker. If it goes into an Edinburgh garage again then the AUC warranty has finished so I'd be interested to hear about the indy specialists.

Update - Now I REALLY won't be going back there.

When I picked it up in December it had gone dark while I was in the dealers. I drove the car to a friend's garage in Edinburgh where we put the car cover over it and have left it since. (Was too snowy and icy in my street to get it home and then went away for Christmas & New Year!).

All enthusiastically I went to get the car yesterday and found this...

Scratched right through all the layers of paint, through the undercoat and even the fecking metal is scratched. Took it back to the dealer who've told me to sod off. Mileage shows the car has not been used since the service, but it's my word against theirs that I haven't done that damage myself over the month since I took it from them.
Really pissed me off when I'd been really looking forward to getting the pride & joy back. Am pretty adamant I won't ever darken their doorstep again whether to buy or get my car serviced & repaired.

Spotted your post on PH about this (nicely phrased to avoid naming the garage, might I add, apart from me identifying the car from that pic in 2 secs ). That's a shitty situation but it's always hard to prove something like that. The last time I took a car into a garage for warranty work I made the branch manager go around the entire car with me prior to leaving it with him, then the same again when I collected it. The hated me for iit and I felt awkward, but it was only due to similar - but nowhere near as severe - damage to my paintwork on a previous occasion at another garage.

I always get the dealer to walk round my car when I drop it off, I know PVR does also and I'm sure there are others. They are also instructed not to wash it. I always ensure I can collect in daylight so I can check before I leave.

It got inspected when it went in, certainly a lesson learnt to repeat the exercise when I collect it next time!

Used BMW Car Buyers Beware. I was unfortunate enough to have purchased a used BMW Z4 M Roadster last summer "2009" from Eastern Motor Company in Edinburgh. Every used BMW should go through a (BMW AUC Programme) your assurance that every Approved Used BMW has been prepared to exacting standards. Not only does every Approved Used BMW go through more than 120 rigorous checks and full road tests, you also receive an extensive array of specific programme benefits. However, my Z4 M never went through any such checks before the sales person handed over my keys... When I eventually got home after a 90 mile trip I set about washing and cleaning my car. To my horror I had a catalogue of problems, some of which were seriously dangerous and could have caused an accident on my way home. What Im about to list below Im sure any readers will be questioning my honesty here, but I assure you this is 100% true and I have the paperwork to prove it. 1: front nearside tyre "FLAT" 2: front and rear nearside alloys both "BUCKLED" 3: rear exhaust backbox "10p SIZED HOLE through it" 4: offside window "faulty switch" 5: rear numberplate light "water inside" 6: suspect paintwork to offside door and the list goes on and on... As you can see by the above list, this car had clearly been damaged in some way or another, this Z4 M had only covered 3000 miles from new but had been mistreated by the staff at Eastern or by someone else either way I was sold this car for £25,000 with all this damage to it. On a "positive note" they did come to my home to pick it up and offered to repair it for me at no cost, which they did. But, I soon sold the car afterwards not having it 12 weeks because having felt somewhat being miss sold a "lemon". My BMW experience had been severely tested and I feel disgusted as to their business dealings. I never did get an apology from BMW Head Customer Services to this date. I so wish to purchase another BMW Z4 (35is) in the new year, but Im afraid to do so, just incase.

Buyer Beware - why on earth when you buy a car dont you do a good check over before handing over the cash, picking up from service, repair etc. Why do people wait till they get home to discover the problems! And trottski you fall into the same blame mode as many others, 'My BMW experience has been severely tested.....' so is that every BMW dealer and seller or just the one you purchased from - and who is really to blame the seller or for you not taking the time to do a decent check before purchase. BMW garages may well advertise a 120 point rigorous check BUT why not do your own for peace of mind if nothing else.

I only wish I had on the day! The deal was done over the telephone, I then drove up with my brother and give it the once over. But getting under the car was impractical and I needed to drive the 2hrs back home straight away. It was a simple but a mad mistake at the same time. :(

On the inside of the nearside 2 alloys were buckled, a small hole in the back box, water in the number plate light, faulty window switch, small dent in the rear wing, all small inadequacies I know but I wouldn't have thought this would have passed the point check in the first place. I also had an under inflated tyre for my drive back home :driving: . It makes you wonder. :|

Thats all Im saying, something was at a miss, someone didn't do their job properly. But having said all of this, the manager did arrange to pick up my Z'd from my front door on a back of a trailer and fixed all the problems as mentioned for no cost! Result. :D But Im I do still feel badly done by to this date. Im sure I will get over it.

A small update to this, a friend had his 5 series in Eastern and when he got it back the back bumper was burst open and cracked - someone in the dealership had reversed it into something. I'm guessing they were ignoring the reverse sensor alarms and little radar picture on the iDrive glowing red. In fairness to them, on this occasion they've owned up to it and offered to fix it free of charge though.
