Early Morning Drive - Fantastic

 North of Bolton
Well I dropped my lovely wife off at work this morning, 7am start wtf, and decided to come back over the Belmont / Rivington route. This is just north of Bolton and is a route used in many T/Gear, F/Gear etc tests.

Have to say it was the best 15 mins I have had for a long time, roof down, clear roads and Matt Monro "days like these" on the ipod.

One word - Fantastic :D

Yes thats it, just cleaning the bugs off the front and my teeth from the permanent grin.

One downer though just before I left Bury I had the misfortune (almost) to be on the same road as an utter c*ck in a 535d estate who couldn't use his nearside mirror. He almost cut across me twice in the space of 500yds and then shouted abuse at me when I had the nerve to give him an earful of car horn. I'm sure he had Miss Daisy in the back.

But all was forgotten when I hit the open road.

I was out at 8.00am yesterday. 2 Z4s headed to Ruthin then to the Evo triangle and on to Bala and Vernwy. Fantastic roads and hardly a car until past 11am when the tourists began to arrive. Mate's 2 litre stuck manfully to the task of keeping up until his brakes faded somewhere up above Ffestinog.

Fantastic morning's drive on some of the best roads hereabouts.

I've got to admit the best drive I've had in a while was at 3 in the morning in bewdley in an ldv maxus van, yes its only the 95ps 3.5t lwb high roof model but the roads were completely empty, so if anyone saw a big white van revving its nuts off up bewdley high street that was me, Hi, 50mph before braking in to the 90 degree right hander sharp left over crest into the hill climb, upto keens sawmill to do some work, then back down the deserted bypass at 95mph, only 95mph cos it didnt have much more to give and I wanted to go home that night or morning so I didnt wanna break it

Just thought Id share than with y'all, it was equal if not more fun than driving the old z4 yesterday stuck behind captain slow going to the sunday car boot to look at someone elses old junk.

Its a lovely car but Im still not 100% confident in it after the steering packed up the other week, although it does have some go in it, im short shifting at around 5k to 4th it seems when there is still 2k to go.

tbh I could go on about it all day, my old man has a 170bhp brabus hot hatch which it pretty brisk but you have to be in the ideal rev range with it being a turboed 4 cyl 1.5l engine before it gets into its stride, 3.0l inline six on the other hand has the power right from 2000 revs, the chassisis a bit twitchy too you can feel it moving around although it it a little numb on the old runflats.

If I go on any longer ima write a book

Sounds fun!

Bad taste in music! :P

I had a good early morning blast the other day. I was spending the day out on my motorbike, so I took the Z4 for a blast early on. You know when you have had a good drive when all you can smell is a burnt rubber odour when you get out of the car! Got to love rear wheel drive sometimes! :driving:
