Just fitted these to my Zed to replace the RF's and though theyre still wearing in - wow what a difference!! The car has lost the crashyness but still has a good ride and a lot better as a drive!

Thought i'd share my experiences for anyone thinking of making a move away from RF's :)
 
I've been running F1 asymentricals for 3 years now.They are a superb tyre. Good grip, great in the wet, even wear and good value.
 
So far so good, im just waiting for the top layer to wear down now so i can get to the real grip of these :)
 
Modern tyres are made from layers of composite materials and often you'll have to "run them in" for some miles to wear away the top protective layer and get down to the grippy bits below - some racing tyres need scrubbing before they're fitted which effectively removes the top layers so racing cars dont have to run in their tyres like a road car would do.

Not quite.

You may have some of the curing agent still in the tyre from when they were molded, but there are very few that have different layers for different performance (the Bridgestone S-02 was one that did).

Most new tyres should only need 50-100 miles for the curing compound to be completely released, and after that they should perform in the same manner.

The only differences the tread depth should make is in the wet weather performance where the less tread will mean less ability to remove standing water and very slightly in steering feel as the blocks won't move around as much.

And despite the common myth, a tyre that's past it's wear bars will not make an excellent track tyre due to being almost a slick, as the compound below that level is usually quite hard.
 
You can wear the tyres in in 5 mins.

Turn of DSC, accelerate very hard a few times, then go round a few roundabouts very hard. They are now bedded in :D

I'm on my second set at the rear, will be the third set into next summer.

I can't think what I will replace them with. Sometimes I've not been happy with revised tyres, but then again the F1 GSD3 > Asymmetric was a positive one, so hopefully Asymmetric 1 > 2 will be a positive one too :D


Has anyone tried the new Bridgestone S001 yet?
