E91 BMW 330d - thoughts and feedback?

151k!! Blimey

We have a 2011 320d M sport Individual and its great.
A fantastic all rounder. it's comfy and quiet and very economical.
Cheap tax and lots of toys. Been to Yorkshire in it and with 4 of us, luggage and all the gear it was fine.

Think they're a good choice!

lol - i know, high miles - but that doesn't put me off if its been looked after
Yours is the newer ED model right? With the lower tax and lower CO2?

I wouldn't be too put off with the miles either, we ran a 2006 E90 330d auto from 3k miles 3 months old for six years and sold it with 157k miles on it and I still thought it drove lovely and felt solid and nothing went wrong with it in that time and it was just serviced at the dealer at the required time, the biggest expense was tyres/brakes and they eat through rear pads because the traction light is always flashing with the torque yet you will hardly ever replace the front pads.

I thought it was a cracking all rounder and my current E90 330i feels really gutless low down in comparison and I would have gone with another 330d if I was doing big miles but currently not doing as many so I went petrol instead.

They come very highly recommended from me and with it being a touring only adds to the practicality.

You're right, just looks a lot but if it's been looked after, feels solid and spent the majority of its life on motorways or doing long haul trips then it might well be worth it.

Friend of mine had a 2005 330d saloon and he absolutely loved his. Again, it was frugal and fast and a solid, reliable car.

Yes I agree

Don't get me wrong you will read plenty about problems with Turbo`s and DPF`s but that wasn't our experience and as with any diesel if you do long runs and plenty of miles that is what seems to suit them, I think short trips does them a fair bit of harm because they take an age to warm up and the DPF`s never get chance to regenerate.

Great feedback - many thanks! :)

My mum has had her e90 330d from new since 2006.

In that time the only issue she had were:
a steering lock issue... Which appeared in year 4 and bmw covered the £1k repair under goodwill (minus seals and clips around £50 worth  )

Also the adaptive cruise is temperamental think its due to minus knocks to the front bumper. Working at the moment but it didnt work for over 6 months then after a service started working again!

And the electric side mirror needed a new bracket as one of the brackets broke somehow... I just araldited it 2 years ago and its been fine since.

Thanks for that - good pieces of info to know.
How many miles she done in that time and does she use it for short hops or long trips? Im thinking of DPF issues...

As my parents live in london it mainly city driving... Thinks the car has covered 20k miles now in 9 years!!! No issues with the DFP.
