e90 tweeters

Looking to do a budget audio upgrade in the doors, Im not after amping it up or owt, i probably only put music on in the car a once or twice a month but when i do i would like it not to be so muddy in the midrange, im thinking just a set of tweeters, some alpine 4 inch speakers and some sound deadening in the doors (not just for the benefit of the speakers)

Question is really would these e90 tweeters be plug and play? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124353253760 or will i need crossovers

I might be wrong but I believe those tweeters are plug and play since they already have the crossovers built in, it is the blue part in the middle of speaker cable.

that was my suspicion but i wanted to check before commiting

For what it's worth I put a fairly decent tweeter & midrange package into my doors (Audison) and I'm a bit disappointed with the result because I think there's some bizarre equalisation going on to favour the crappy units that were there before. I plan to see if I can override that equalisation but meanwhile they're a wee bit better but not much.
Oh and get some spare door panel clips in .... I guarantee you'll break a few.

Kinda why im trying to keep it cheap, dont want to plough cash into top end speakers for little reward, if i can clean up the mids a little that will be enough

If you are in stingy mode then a replacement 100mm speaker that fits the odd bmw hole placement that has an integrated tweeter is by far the simplest choice given as stated the 6 speaker equalisation ...

You’re still into £150 for a pair..

To be honest im trying to keep it under 100, the e90 tweeters.. a set alpines from Amazon
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alpine-SPG-13C2-Co-Axial-2-Way-Speaker/dp/B003VVN8LI/ref=bmx_3/257-7291892-2127116?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B003VVN8LI&pd_rd_r=bbe75917-0c25-4527-89cc-0ae7ed026fb2&pd_rd_w=nxraX&pd_rd_wg=HtBo5&pf_rd_p=26d9b5cc-9c88-4655-88a4-db5806d5daad&pf_rd_r=V4K6GZNQ3RWFKZK32V8C&psc=1&refRID=V4K6GZNQ3RWFKZK32V8C
and some sound deadening comes in at a 100 pounds.. im not sure if i put the 2 ways in the door if i need the tweeters though due to the odd eq system in the car.. so much conflicting info about

With those alpine speakers adding additional tweeters is a waste of time and in fact technically could actually hamper matters..

If you can make those speakers fit then they should be fine..as far as I see they don’t fit without adaptation..

The matting is debatable also..

I have one door that does resonate bit when driven hard on certain tracks eg Adele, When We Were Young.. but I’m feeding 50+ watts not 5 as in yours..

All IMHO..

PS with the equalisation set up of the 6 speaker system it will sound bright anyway..

The matting is actually to reduce road noise more then anything, i find the tyre noise a lot more intrusive than in the e85 and i was kinda expecting the opposite, if it helps a little with sound quality its just a bonus, what makes you think the speakers wont fit.. i know they will need adapter mounts but haven't got into measurements of depth etc yet

Copied on the road noise...the noise for me seems to come from the rear tyre wells so not sure that the matting in the doors will change that..be interested to see how that works out..

Reference speakers BMW speakers have asymmetric hole layout and the mounting unit is custom moulded to suit the bmw speakers...

To my knowledge only the premium replacements have bmw compatible hole layouts..

Others have used adapters successfully so I’m sure you could get there...

 doors to begin with if I'm in there doing speakers, i find the tyre noise is coming from all 4 corners, if i get a bit of improvement doing doors i will start looking into lifting linings and seeing what can be done

Somewhere in this forum I have read someone swapping out the door speakers with speakers from a Mini, it is the same size shape as the Z4 ones but apparently somewhat better quality and they paired it with a set of tweeters similar to your original link in the door mirror housing. They claimed it was good improvement. The tweeters and some second hand Mini speakers should come in way under your £100 budget.

yes ive read that somewhere on here too, im going to go with a set a 4 inch 2 way door speakers though i think, ive got speakers, mounting adapters and sound deadening in my basket on Amazon for 62.99...if i can achieve the small improvement i want at that price i will be happy enough .. if not then its not the end of the world and I've hopefully still cut out a little road noise :D

Do you have a link to the mounting adaptors? The two way door speakers will probably do a good job but I do believe having the tweeters in the door mirrors housing is better since it's good to have the tweeter closer to your head / ear level as possible.

I had these installed in the 23i onto the basic system and felt it made no difference.

When I was posting about a possible upgrade I was actually advised to take these out, something to do with the range and the feed they were being fed from made them pretty ineffective

going to try these...not 100% on them but they look like they will work and easy to return if they dont

£100 for sound deadening!!!! go to www.deadening.co.uk and get a few sheets of Dodo mat self adhesive hex sheet.
I sound deadened the entire interior of my ELWB transit for less then £200..... Around 35 square meters
