Hi great thanks it is an 09 with 42k , full BMW history , 4 previous owners , came with Main dealer service , 12 months warranty , 12 months mot , new pads allround and 2 new rear tyres . Sounds amazing , goes like stink !
The car has , upgraded speakers , sports heated leather , folding mirrors , 18" style 294 , Bluetooth, cruise , front and rear parking sensors , auto lights Zenons , just short of satnav although most think it wasn't any good , plus it is a manual .
I have had BMW s for the last 30 years , still have another 2 in the family E53 X5 and 220d xdrive gran tourer it is like having their love child on the front , just one thing I am unsure on and that is a bit of wine I think from the diff when car is not pulling is it normal as I know you are sitting over the rear wheels more or less ?
Does any one know how many of the 2.3 and 35 were made to give me a comparison?
Regards

Regarding the whine from the transmission, I have the same issue although mine is a 23i but still with the 6 speed manual getrag box.
Mine was warbling in second gear at 1400rpm and at 1000 rpm in 3rd gear.
I changed the oil in the box initially, people will blab on that they are sealed for life but no good mechanic will ever agree that or 20,000 mile engine oil changes are a good thing.
Draining the oil gives you a chance to dip a magnet in it and look for anything that should not be there, indicating bearing breakdown etc. Mine was fine so I repeated the procedure with the diff (you have to suck the oil out of the diff, no drain plug) again spotless.
New oil in, nothing changed so I discussed the problem with http://reconditioned-gearbox.co.uk/ and they diagnosed it as bearing breakdown, apparently they can come loose on the shaft, damage the shaft, get out of alignment and its all downhill from there.
A new box from BMW is £3600 but the people mentioned above will collect your box and return it for £80, rebuild it completely to OEM spec for £1500 with a complete 12 month parts and labour warranty.
Warranty direct paid for mine.....

If you have the ski-loading options then it's possible you have the only one ever produced for the RHD market. Collectors item.

You should make a thread asking is anyone else knows of another example
When I bought mine in 2013 (2009 model) it had the ski bag but as I had and still have no intention of using ski's I removed it so probably destroyed its rarity. Not that it worries me its a great unit and nice to own a six pot.

Haha I do have the fold out ski bag feature  boom ! :D

I have a Sdrive 30 Msport (Manual) and have been reading about main beam assist. Is this standard or an option? If so how is it engaged?

I believe my vin indicates I have it?

Best

Oooh only 236 of my manual 35i taxed so far this year... looks like we've reached peak 35i manual, only way is down from here... that's decided, as soon as the kitchen, living room, garage extension and garden are done I'm garaging mine and buying a 4x4 :D :driving:

I think if you have this there should be an auto setting on the light switch. Once it is set to auto I think flashing the high beam lights activates high beam assist and high beam will then come on automatically in certain circumstances like a B road with no lights if there are no other cars around. They will automatically switch off if another car is detected in front of you and then back on when there is no cars.

Thanks. Last night I tried that - nothing seems to happen. Tried switching on and holding on "on position" for over 3s or so to see if that somehow enables the mode - nothing seemed to happen 🤷‍♂️

Cheers

I have it in the X6 and the light switch must be turned to auto then the high beam must be either flashed or put on and this brings on a light in the dash to say its activated. The high beam will only really come on if you are on an unlit road with no cars in front of you or coming towards you. Sometimes road signs reflecting can switch it off too.

Re the high beam assist, you need to make sure it’s activated and then you need to pull the stalk as if you’re putting high beams on but pull it usually until you see the wee symbol on the dash. Unfortunately you need to reactivate it every drive.

BMW have since changed this system with a simple push of a button on the indicator stalk. Just a shame it wasn’t like that for the E89.

Thanks for the detailed info - perhaps I was too impatient (and roads were busy, although I did wait for empty, dark bits of road)

I'll try again tomorrow!

Cheers

Ideally set the system before you set off and then it should work it’s magic and remember to hold your nerve, it will dim the high beam. It’s sometimes tempting to toggle it off before if switches off.
