E89 without Ski Pass Thru

Does anyone know how easy it is to remove the plastic panel which covers the central hole in the back wall between boot and cabin when you don't have the ski pass thru or storage shelf fitted?

I'm trying to upgrade the hifi and want to remove the panel but without having to remove all the carpet and trims first.

Looking on the oem parts site doesn't show this panel at all. I wondered if it was just slightly larger than the hole or if it extends right along under the carpet wall.

I've seen photos of the bulkhead without any coverings but that doesn't really give me a clue about this panel as it wasn't on the pics I saw.

Any help appreciated. Cheers

I assume you are looking to keep the hole the same size? The covers are easy to remove as they are just clipped on and you should be able to remove the back panel by reaching inside the boot and unclipping it in 4 places as for removing the whole plastic surround left that might not be as easy

Thanks for that Guys.
Unfortunately I may not have explained myself very well.

I don't have anything to unclip in the boot or the cabin. I have no storage box or pass through.

On the cabin side I have a flat carpet wall.

On the boot side, once you remove the back wall cover, there is a square hole through the bulkhead to the back of the carpet. There is a plastic panel visible which covers the entire hole in front of the carpet. This is what I would like to remove and leave the carpet in place.

I would prefer not to remove the carpet as it means removing a lot of trim to do it.

I wondered how that panel might be fixed to the bulkhead and if I could remove it from the boot side without damaging anything (ie fixings etc)

Any ideas please.

Ah... I've seen an e89 being built and at that time at least, the bulkhead was solid and they cut a hole in it if you wanted the storage/pass thru. I don't think there would be any option but to manually cut through it but then model builds may have changed since I saw it.

OK I think I've found out what I am seeing.

The panel I can see from the boot is in fact the back of the carpet which covers the wall behind the seat backs. I had thought there might be a separate carpet but trying to push a needle through the carpet proves that it is in fact a solid panel covered in fuzz.
On RealOEM it doesn't show a separate carpet part no. and I would need to order the alternative part with the cut out already done.

So unless I want to get a new part or cut the existing panel, there isn't an easy way to open it up. Oh well. :headbang: forget that idea then.

Yup as I said, I've seen this done at the factory, its solid and they cut it out with a template if you have this option specced.
