E89 spacer saver

I am thinking about purchasing a space saver for my e89 with 17 inch wheels but I am not sure what BMW wheels can fit this model. I don't have run flats but have air pump and foam in the boot.
Many thanks for any advice.

You need to find one with approx offset or et of around 40
Or pick up a single 17inch alloy of similar offset (7.5 or 8j ) as there will be minimal difference in size from spacesaver if you fit a smaller tyre to it than normal :thumbsup:

Ok if you are not in the middle of nowhere, with no phone signal with a sidewall ripped out like I have had.
This has reminded me, my local scrapper has a set of my wheels and tyres cheap.
Think I will go up Monday and buy a front one.
Boot normally filled with junk, might as well have a spare in it on longer journeys.
A bit of weight in the rear wouldn't go amiss come winter.

That's a fair point , for virtually the whole of our weekend in Snowdonia we had zero phone reception :|
Carrying 2 cans of foam , 1 tyre inflator + a raisin&biscuit Yorkie i was never worried :oops:

I'm prepared to take a punt, can just send back if it doesn't work.
Just ordered, let you know how I get on.
Would be cheaper than the hassle I had risking driving home on a flat tyre with the potential of wrecking a rim.
 
I was at the motor racing at Le Mans earlier this year in my brothers Porsche who had a puncture and ended up with a shreaded front tyre with no spare wheel. We only had foam and a pump which was useless. The car had to be recovered off the motorway and had to wait to get a pair of tyres the next day. It was a lot of hassle and a lot of time wasted. Would just like to have the option of carrying a spare wheel depending where I was going.

Have to agree there is no substitute for a spare wheel but throw one in your 89 boot & there won't be whole lot else going in :cry: fine if travelling light but for a decent roadtrip with 2 people i just don't see how its practical :? unless you don't want to fold the roof the whole time ?
 
When I get the spare, I will see what else will fit in.
Of course the problem really is there space to carry the flat home with bags!
Given the choice if the clothes were cheap, just dump them.
 
It's potentially a nightmare scenario. Bad puncture can't be repaired with your tyre foam and you're somewhere remote with poor phone reception. Or you're away for a holiday and carry a spare and brace and Jack but can't put the roof down as there's a boot full of clothes, wheel etc. Then when you do change the wheel you've nowhere to put the punctured one! :(

What we need are run flats! :D
 
Well I can live out of Ryanair walk on baggage allowance size for two weeks, so doesn't bother me.
It's those women that's the problem!

Which break your wheels and then you need a spare or recovery...
 
You need to strap a spare to one of those picnic hamper racks on the boot lid they used to put on Morgans and MG's etc.

Look great on a E89...

I'll be chucking a spare wheel in the boot for long trips round Europe and taking it out for short ones.

The boot is small and for those long trips in Europe you'll need all available space especially if you're taking her ladyship!

If you do take a spacesaver and a posh bag, remember that you'll have to put an dirty 8.5" wheel somewhere when you've swapped It - - and don't forget the jack with it's winding handle along with a wheel brace.

If you want to take a spare you might as well take a full size wheel !

Nope. I'll be taking a full size wheel with a compact jack and wrench. The winter tyres are going on soon and i have an all-season spare in the same size. E85 boot is easily big enough for that and bags.
If Lau tags along, like me she can travel light easily too although she has had her moments, like when she took this lot just for a daytrip to the coast to look at the tulip fields... Bonkers!

The thread title is "E89 space saver" - you seem to be talking about your E85?
The boot space in the two types can't be compared !
