No security update yet either

It will if your car was built with newer software.. It will also on an older build if its been updated.

Great thanks - good to know I'm being observant rather than the Christmas over-indulgence addling my brain ;)

Build date Oct 2010 then bought by me from a main dealer July 2012. Maybe the software was updated at prep for resale?

Hey guys

Sorry for what might be a rather stupid question - but will this update prevent cloning of the remote control for access into the vehicle?

Last night, my car suffered a break in - found it this morning unlocked - no damage anywhere which leads me to suspect some f**ker has unlocked remotely. Stole the iPod classic from the armrest (and my box of chewing gum!).

I have a March 11 Z4 23i sDrive.

I am now sitting nervously knowing that somebody can easily access the car - I guess in some respects I am "lucky" that no damage was done however it angers me that these f**kers who cannot go out and earn an honest living can just take people's hard earned belongings.

The car was purchased in September from BMW Park Lane London and so far, I have heard nothing from the dealer regarding the software update - thanks to this forum, I will call the 0800 number and get the vehicle booked in asap.

Your kind advises are welcomed!

Mike

Not good news... but are you certain your car was locked? I religiously unlock and lock my car before I retire to bed for this reason.. its so easy to hit unlock on these keys if they're in your pocket or your just carrying them. After I've seen it lock, I place my keys on the bedside table to ensure I don't click them again!

Got ours booked in on the 19th for the fix. I still thinks its OFF that BMW aren't proactiveley contacting owners.

Sorry to hear about your break in.

Sean

Yeah, it was definitely locked - like you guys, living in Central London and having the car parked on the road means I check it religiously. Doors were definitely locked as I check for the flashing red LED when doing the daily inspection!

I am kind of hoping that it was a professional who got lucky, and not a resident prowler who will keep picking on my vehicle.

From what I read Ronk, as part of the security update they disabled it but with a caveat that if the customer wanted that function back, it could be coded to do so.

Eventually my updates been done. While it was on the kit the tech loooked into the close roof on the fob - alsas no joy! I did ask if that couldn't be achieved that the close roof on the convential key be retained.

Picked the car up this pm and guess what - It has to go back in for the reinstatement of the convential key operation in a couple of weeks.

I feel a smarttop module coming on! :D

Please excuses ignorance here but as a Newbie looking to buy a used Z4 is there any way of knowing whether the security mod has been done or not?

I'm picking mine up tomorrow from the dealer & was very upfront about it with the salesmen: that they had to confirm the security update had been done before I'd accept the car!

Thanks very much. I had the impression that there was a symbol change on the dash.
