E89 security fix - any updates?

2 yrs from manufacture. Our 1'er was built Feb 2011 and is saying oil change due. The screen says 300 miles as well as Feb 13. So is it a case of which comes sooner?

The car was registered in March 2011.

Think about it, the car could be built and sitting around for several months, and in that time things deteriorate.

The brake fluid is time based (2yr) and the engine is condition but with the 2 yr max caveat.

I found out to my cost that the two year rule is from the date of manufacture and NOT date of first registration.

Should be from registration date.

Maybe it should - but its definately not!

Mine popped up on the screen two years from date of manufacter and this was confirmed by BMW customer services - Remember the brake fluid is hygroscopic !

That's because the dealer did not reset as part of the PDI.

My first Z4 was built Aug06 but registered Dec06. My oil and brake were always due end of Dec which was when the car was registered.

Spoke to BMW customer services today. Apparently some dealers have the Z4 software fix and some don't??? They rang back to confirm the Elms Bedford do and they should be in touch soon. I'll give it a couple of days then chase them if nothing heard.

Probably a phased roll out....so those that get it done first are testing it for BMW.

As far as I know from a mechanic friend there is no fix and BMW won't be recalling... "Friends of friends of his" supposedly cleared out 15 cars from a BMW forecourt... Glad I've got a pre 06... Ginger eyeliner suddenly doesn't seem that bad.

The real test is only at a hopefully failed attempt at theft!

They (manufacturers) should maybe keep some reformed car theives on a retainer ????

That would make sense! Perhaps to disable the odb port when ignition is off?

Mines booked in on Monday, originally told only X5 and X6, the woman then checked with her manager who confirmed they have other models for the (in their words) recall

Going to Birmingham on Friday, hope it doesnt get nicked before the update lol

Had mine done yesterday....software updates do not allow insertion of blanks to be re programmed now....took 45 mins

For those of you who have successfully booked your cars in for the fix - do any of you NOT have the Comfort Pack? I ask as when I tried to get booked in for the fix, I was first told that only X5s and X6s needed it and subsequently told that only cars with the Comfort Pack were vulnerable.

Having said all this, the dealer that gave me this information has not exactly impressed me thus far...
