Car tested was not an M-Sport. I wonder if the reviewer would have liked the M-Sport suspension better?

They're going to have to because the E89 is going to be comprehensively out pointed by the new Boxster if they don't. Don't believe the official line from BMW that they aren't competitors. Just ask anyone with 35-45k ish to spend on a Roadster what their short list comprises of.

Unfortunately BMW are lowering their brand by their current actions, profit before thought IMHO. Porsche for example have recently stated they'd not launch anything below the boxster as it would damage their brand level. BMW are box shifting to a level where not only are prices crashing for those of us that paid a bundle at first, but to the extent the Z4 will almost be a common sight, equally not good for a niche product, or what was niche. A little disappointing. But all good for BMWs profits. Time for me to consider whether I want to continue lining their pockets...

The fact they're doing amazing deals makes me suspicious why they want to get so many sold.. perhaps not just profiteering but in fact to clear out parts perhaps, ready for a new model/facelift. In which case if its just about money, get a 20i now is what I say... because when the facelift arrives, those deals will disappear!
Traditionally BMWs are on a seven year life cycle. After four years, they introduce the LCI and the model continues for three more.
Z4 doesn't have to follow this and I'm not up on the rumours.
The deals may have to do with BMW missing their short term demand forecast for the Z4. Sales will pick up in the spring and/or they will scale back production.

For the E85, launch was 2003, mid life face lift was 2006 and the e89 was launched in 2009, however if they were thinking of releasing the face lift soon, then the discounts would be on all model variants one would have thought.
If I'm not mistaken the M Sport was a face lift option and not available previously, where with the e89 it followed 18 months or so after launch and now almost 3 years in with new engines, could this indicate no facelift :idunno:
sars, yes, I think you might just be right. I had wondered if they might reduce the lifespan of the car altogether... given the financial climate?
It would be crazy to launch new engines and then do the facelift. Also, newer BMW models like the 5 and 3 series have LED daytime running lights as well as the new style dashboard (speedo and rev counter with colour graphics in between). Will the Z4 ever see things like this I wonder...?

The 3 series coupe and convertible are on their last year. There are incentives, but not nearly as large as the e89.
I'm not sure about the UK market, but in the US the Z4 has always needed sales support.
Current US Z4 lease programs have residuals over 70%. (US MSRP * residual = Option Purchase Price) -- BMW FS will take a big hit when owners return those cars.

Individual dealers are offering up to £8000. We got about £7850 on a 2 year agreement. There must be hidden incentive cash from BMW. Dealers call it Trunk money in America.
Mercedes does have a good national offer on C class coupes but it isn't 8K.

Your dealer is trying to rip you off then. I did a deal with no deposit, MSport upgrade, dealer using the sat nav or "option" allowance as a £2225 discount which worked out in the end as a £34,100 list price specced car for £26,500.
IMHO the new 2.0l turbo is a lovely car to drive with enough oomph for the twisties. Forget about straight line as anyone can drive fast without any steering input
