Does seem like a massive over reaction. As spats go on a forum I thought it was quite mild. Seen far worst, even on here, which seems one of the better forums in that respect. In deed I've been involved in a couple that were much worse than this
Yes, agreed. I am surprised the forum rules and moderators allow posters to take down all their content like that. It is to the detriment of all and spoils the forum. Most forums (if you read the 412341244 pages of rules when you join) stipulate the content you post is the "property" of the forum and you can be held to account for it.
Anyway, not my forum and not for me to interfere. But seems rather sad and petty to me.
Back on topic I am going to buy my relays next week :)

Good man, heading off the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse before they’ve even got here :P

Good stalking Scootr, there’s more than one way to skin a bratwurst (think i got away with that) :?
Rob

Skin a bratwurst and what do you get >? A skinny brat or a bloody patty. Both sound frightful
Actually I just wanted to fully agree with step_change about the whole property of the forum thing.

Ordered a pair. £ 31.98 delivered.

Hi all. Been lurking on the forum for a year now (great resource), and this is my 1st post.

Just wanted a quick check on the salmon relay subject. I've got a March 2016 registered sDrive18i...and wanted to make sure I'm buying the right version of the relays. Can someone confirm its these ones, recently mentioned ? :-

Also, I assume at 5 years old & 20K miles its worth doing them now as a precaution?

Thanks in advance

Hi, the very first page of this thread has the part number you can check against. As for if it’s worth doing that’s up to you, relays are cheap but roof motor is not :?
Rob

The relays I replaced looked like new, inside and out, however as Smartbear puts it the relays are cheap the roof motor isn’t !

For all those new to the Z4 E89, I'll push this topic:

Get your salmon relays replaced by new ones every 5 years.

Cheers Robbi,
This kind of thread needs to have a regular revival date set on it.

I changed mine recently and because I’m a nerd I pulled the covers off the old ones to inspect the contacts. One was fine, but the other was well on its way out. Because they are not the highest quality (even the ones purchased through BMW) the alignment of the contacts was off. The contact surface was therefore reduced to about 50%, which over time clearly saw the current concentrated over a smaller area, resulting in quite a bit of arcing and subsequently pitting on the contacts. £18 we’ll spent (even though there was no symptoms suggesting a change was needed).

Going to buy two and do mine when I get paid this week. I have been intending to do this job for ages and not got round to it.

Literally just swap them out by removing old ones and putting the news ones in? Battery can be left connected etc?

It’s as simple as that, and I’m useless with any form of DIY

Yes, correct.
But dont use any tool, you can brick the red fuse box next to the battery.

Have a look:
