E89 Roof Help

Hi guys, I've error codes A692 and A696 , I've assumed they are both codes from the right hand boot ram, A692 being the front Hall Sensor and the A692 being the micro switch!
I've read as much as I can from this fine site.
Can anyone confirm my assessment please TIA

Also has anyone got the part no for the Microswitch?

A692 VSW5.3 Microswitch, rear-end module closed, right
A696 VSW7.3 Hall sensor, open circuit, closing movement, rear-end module
Confirmed!

Have a look => āŒ› Prepare E88 hall sensors for E89 use

But, don't touch the microswitch!
It's ok, but the first wire in the upper bow of the hydraulic harness is broken. The other 3+2 wires on both sides may be weakend as well and should be replaced with new flexible ones.

Now folks, since this story is repeatedly covered in this forum every week, why is a new thread opened for each case since the solution and recommendations are always the same? :tumbleweed:

Thank you very much Robbi, I did look for specifics before posting just need to work out what you said about the harness šŸ‘

Worth asking the mods to put your comprehensive thread at the top of the list permanently?

Good idea..a few standard ones should be parked there..eg cracked alloys.. :tumbleweed:

Something else I've noticed is when the boot is up and the window shell is on the roof, the motor runs when I keep my fingers pressed on the button, almost like some sort of restriction!! Not sure if it's relevant though!

In the upper, not visible bow of the hydraulic harness on both sides of the rear roof shell is tear&wear in the 2 wires on the left as well as the 2+2 wires on the right. Sometimes it's broken, sometimes there are shorts between two wires with broken insulations. In most cases the hydraulic hoses are cutted as well and should be taped to get stabilized. Nothing, that can be done perfectly from below the roof shell.

Try to read all the other trreads with pictures, tips and recommendations for external service partners in UK. Takes time, but is a good investment before destroying more than before.

Wires should be replaced with new flexible ones. I take 0,25mm² LiFY quality) from Conrad Electronics in Germany.

I've tried maintaining a single thread covering all "E89 roof cases" on the ZRoadster.com forum. But it's a lot of work and depends on the discipline of all new users in roof panic.

That is a typically consequence of some faults, as the system is waiting on and "hydraulicall pushing" for the correct signal change.

Well even a seprate sub-forum would make it easier.

Thanks again Robbi, I have spent days reading before I posted, right from buying the software to get the codes, read all yours which are great, just wanted confirmation, not upset the apple cart!!
There is a lot of conflicting information out there which doesn't help!!

I appreciate your time!

I don't think so, as the same will happen like here in this "E89 problems" sub-forum. Each case will be a new thread and you/we/me have to write repeatedly the same stories.

Completely agree with you. It's not an easy topic and it's not easy to separate chatter from valuable information.

How about setting up some standard format for some key subjects ..then always point people to them first post irrespective of number of posters..

Intro..explanation of subject area

History of relevant changes

Issues by symptoms and their causes

Issues by fault codes and their causes

Work pack for each sub issue

Notes to be updated over time..

I’d be happy to do one on ignition or one on wheels or handlimg etc.. :tumbleweed:

To be fair to the OP, the search function on this site is not easy to use and can give hundreds of results which are not relevant. I presume it's OK if you have a degree in computer software.

I asked for the roof corrosion thread to be made a sticky but nothing has happened! :|
