E89 Roof fault

Touch wood no problems with my roof on 2009 car.
Had now for 3 1/2 years at 60k, last 30k with me and roof up/down like a fiddlers elbow summer months.
But my colleagues 2013 car with about 11k had two roof failures.
She hadn't tried the roof for about 3 months after purchase 2nd hand and it got stuck in the classic fashion.
Fixed, it got stuck again about two weeks later.
After a deeper repair (micros replaced), ok so far.
But I think it has tarnished her enjoyment and is now afraid to use roof far from home.

So make me wonder if there are some dodgy 2013 micro switches.

Also my rear demist doesn't work, the wire has broken off at the window.
The connection to the window is fragile and there isn't material left to reattach to window.
But you do end up with a loose wire floating around close to the roof mechanism and a micro switch.
I had to tape the wire up and tuck it away out of harms way.
I wonder if there was some tugging of the wires when roof operates that caused this wire to break.

Could be right about the 2013 micro switches. My current Z is a July 13 build and had roof issues/warnings. Fixed under warranty (micro switches replaced) and no problems since. No other significant issues with the car.

My previous 2011 2.3 M Sport had no issues at all in almost 3 years of ownership.

Well car in for the roof check . Got an email with a link to a video with a guy from the garage giving me a run through on my front brake discs - why I don't know ? Anyway advisory on front disks at at 17834 miles !!!!! Funny how that never got spotted 6 weeks ago at the end of warranty check !!!! Hopefully they'll get around to actually fixing the problem with the roof !!!!!!!!!!! but reckon I'll be contacting BMW customer service before the day is out ! This doesn't look good.

Well car checked out roof mechanism, sensors switches etc. No fault codes except for a historical one from last year. Tested over and over. Computer reset and tested again. All ok . Huge sigh of relief. Error put down to a glitch. Bill - zero nothing to pay.

One thing I invested in early on, was a cheap car cover I keep behind drivers seat.
Just in case I get caught out with a roof problem.
At least it might save the car getting flooded out.

A friend of mine had a similar problem, phoned bmw and was told £90 for investigation and more likely needs software upgrading at further cost. She took it to her indy and software was sorted, cost her £40.

you may well have a point as my 2011 car was fine but as mentioned earlier my 2013 car roof failed 6 months into ownership

2 weeks since z4 in to get roof checked. Good weather so plucked up courage to try the roof and worked twice ok. However yesterday morning had roof fault light on 5 times and twice today so far. Booked into dealer next Friday. Decided to do my own fault check . Dealer replaced both rear light units in Jan and Feb near side is not fitted correctly- result I now have the start of a small paddling pool under my battery ! Toolkit pack is wet and bag for wind deflector has damp/mildew ! Wee bit of explaining required by dealer on this !!!!!
