You don't lose any of the pops..or back pressure.. The flap is right at the tailpipe.

The loud bang is usually when it's in overboost, or that's when mine seems to do it most... Although I have short shifted a couple of times and the shotgun blast has suprised me..

Yes, the car does pop and crackle more in sport...
The throttle mapping is different in sport mode, can only assume that causes it.

Ok, I thought it was perhaps clever trickery with the valve which caused the pops... I'll have a play over the weekend. How can I safely "cap" the pipes?

That's interesting...

Will have to have a look to see if I can spot a name...

I take it the 35i has the exhaust flap in the offside tailpipe?

yes that is correct ... I have a photo some where of the exhaust with some description stampings, let be have a look

Ah...

I put some butyl on that

Got under the car yesterday, used an old valve cap to cover the pipe and some elctrical tape to stop stuff getting into the actuator. Will look for a better solution (saw on eBay there are proper caps for sale for a couple of quid). Ideally you need one cap which fits on both ends but blocked in the middle so the pipe isn't flapping around and it looks OEM from BMW's POV.

What a difference! I was highly sceptical at first, but it sounds like it should now. No more rattling and noises from the valve - just proper sound  Quite often on a hill at part throttle you could hear that it wasn't open or shut properly and it would just vibrate or rattle...crap.

Even more antisocial now - doesn't need an aftermarket exhaust anymore :? :poke:

You clearly haven't been ignoring it if you've clicked the last page Angie, and to ignore it you must have seen something on it you didn't like making you apparently ignore it, unless you have ignored it totally from it's conception, which is fine btw. :)

.....Urgh big glass of red when I have'nt had any for months, keep off it I think. :headbang:

Ignore the crap above Angie, as I'm sure you have.
