I have always loved the look of the E89 and with its folding hard top as well makes it a complete all rounder too.

Smaller engine the only one in manual though, you don't want to make that Automatic mistake again … :poke:
You are correct and I certainly don't!

I'm guessing you wouldn't entertain the DCT box though Lee?
A great gearbox for sure but its just not for me sadly.

If putting your leg up and and down makes driving much better for you, then that's fine ...

DCT/PDK/ DSG ain't for everyone... You gotta know how to use it...

When used correctly it's faster and just as interactive as a manual... But I can understand how people wouldn't like it..

:driving: but it is quicker

And boring ...
Indeed, the twin clutches are quicker but I miss the interaction with the car that a three pedal manual offers...I am a dinosaur! :D

Hit the nail on the head Lee. Normal pootling and in traffic then nothing better than an auto, and for some hoons DCT is great, it can't be denied it's not a brilliant transmission, but personally, as 99% of my cars use is for hooning, I'm missing the interaction of a normal manual. It's horses for courses as usual, no-ones wrong, just preference.

The 35is sound does make you grin mind, the pops and bangs on downshifts, especially over 4k, are addictive, that would be very hard to lose, I don't know how much difference a 35i would be with the 10db less, yes yes 10db obviously, but I mean how much difference overall would it make from the cockpit, no way of knowing unless I can find a demo car for sale somewhere.

Exactly. Having done the mountain trip in the Alps recently, the battle of the gear selections before hair pins etc is the biggest part of the fun for me. Just pressing a lever does not do that for me.

I have the DCT equivalent in the Abarth, so have a car to compare it with and for me it just is not the same pulling levers instead of feathering the gears and clutch manually. The satisfaction of getting it exactly right is so much more than a robot doing it for you.

The Abarth does not have a lever, only buttons on the centre console and levers on the wheel, which annoyingly turn with the wheel so in a sharp bend I can not find the lever quick enough or have to look which one is in front of me (up or down).

You cano move the lever if the paddles don't do it for you??

Yep been using the shifter only just recently to get all perspectives, it's no different though, it's just a small un-satisfying click forward and back with no clutch. The whole thing is good, but not satisfying enough, and that's the problem.

As it's pretty much run in now I'm starting to really drive it, going fairly hard into bends and downshifting is bad enough, but accelerating hard out of them in the right gear is really the main problem, I'm slamming the shifter back wanting further travel in it is frustrating and not having a clutch to release at the right point feels not right when you're pressing on. The car is very good, handles well and power is superb, doesn't need anymore.

If I don't go boxster then I think it'll be 35i, yes it's a shame, I hold my hands up and admit I've ballsed up, a 35is with a proper manual would be awesome. I've specced up a 35i to the same spec as mine and need to speak to the sales guy to see what we can do. The only way to look at it is it's as if I'd be paying more for a 35i than you normally would with discount, a cuff up yes but life's too short to worry about it or not change from being stubborn about paying too much. It's my cock up so I'll live with it.
