E89 - reversing mirror drop

Hello - cant see anything in my manual but is there a way of adjusting how far the passenger wing mirror drops when in reverse to see the kerb? - I was able to adjust this on the scirocco but cant see anything

E39?

Passenger mirror drop is an option, though I can't remember what option it comes with. Anyhow, to see if you have it, put the switch that switches between passenger and drivers mirror adjustment into the drivers side operation (slide it towards the door panel rather than away from), then put the car in reverse. It should drop automatically and rise back when you come out of reverse.

Thanks Maniac - I do have it but I want it to drop further as it doesnt really show the curb - I could adjust it on the VW by 2 turns on key and indicator down with arm waving out window and a masons handshake or something like that lol - wondered if there was something simular on the Z4 - I have been googling and looks like it might be a coding adjustment

Ah, no I think it dips as far as it can already? Mine certainly shows from the edge of the passenger door back along the back wheel of the car which is enough for me to know how much its going to cost me to park (£0 if I get it right, £1200 in two new wheels if I get it wrong).

Put in reverse and wait till it drops then you can ajust manually to were you like it and it will stay there each time you put it in reverse. :)

I thought I had tried that but maybe not - will give it another go - thought it stayed low - it might be that I just have the seat at the lowest setting and need to grow a couple of inches lol

Sat in the car and tried that. It don't work as for the mirror to drop you have to have the drivers side selected and it therefore will adjust the driver side mirror When you swap the button over to passenger side the mirror lifts back to normal position

Correct Stan just tried it on mine never had reason to alter it before seems a bit arse about face to me. :? :?

I have the same issue, I nearly always have to drop it further as it doesn't go far enough. I didn't realise it could be altered.

On another note, when I drop the drivers side mirror when reversing, sometimes it returns to normal and other times it doesn't. does anyone know how this works?

No way! I'm so going outside to try that now.

I'm guessing you didn't read the reply to that original suggestion...

Can you put it in reverse, wait for it to drop then flip the switch to drivers side then adjust? Or does it go back up when you flip the switch?
Or adjust the mirror so its as low as you can have it for normal driving (while still being useable) then would it go lower when put in reverse?

It must be switched to the drivers side to dip Carol. Switching it to the passenger side will make it rise back up. AFAIK there's no way to adjust its final position like a 'memory' but I'm happy to be wrong on that if someone figures it out.

Just a thought, how about putting one of those little reversing mirrors on the wing mirror?
My son has one on his car. (His mirrors don't dip) works a treat.
It will give loads more lower vision when your car mirrors dip when reversing.

Great Idea Carol - by the way love your Yellow Z - I don't think I could live with it every day - but it looks beautiful
