E89 prices set to nosedive?

No mention of a soft or hard top and possible hybrid engine option. I suspect that if it goes soft top then the e89 will retain it's price as not everyone (Me included) likes a soft top.
Absolutely that's what drew me to the Z4 to ditch the hard top would in my opinion be lunacy . I have seen prices quoted of £60 grand plus for a 35i .at this level the used market for E89 will flourish.

£60k plus for a used 35i, are you sure that’s not a mistake? Link?

Yea Rob , its inevitable mate  just the 35i manuals of course

I think the hard v soft top is probably 50:50 to be honest. It's one reason (of several) why I would never consider an E89 so I'm glad they've ditched it for the new model.

You not a fan of the hard fold top OG ? Would have thought a svelte move for a ZMC owner looking to step up :) :P

I agree , i really can't see BMW replicating the E85 feel whether hard or soft top , things have moved on massively .
That's not to say for the better , just different design + tech

No I am quoting what the price of a new Z4/5 was reported to be in the region of .Which would still make a used Z4 desirable

Misquoting there mate as it wasn't me who asked that Baza :? it was Smartbear but i think we all understood what you were saying

With a hard top there no risk of jealous people slashing your roof, it doesn't fade, you don't have to splash out even more car products to keep the roof in good nick, no drafts, do I need to say more.

The advantage I can see of a soft top is more space in the boot when the roof is down, but who cares as long as you have clean underwear and a wash bag what more could you want! And yes it is a women saying this, but then again I would rather go car over shopping over clothes, handbags etc any day

Nope sorry I think some of you are mad, a soft top are you kidding.

Sounds like you need a Coupe - all that space in the boot for handbags and other shopping all the time!

The folding hard top is a dying breed. The new Z4 will be a soft top as will the next 4 series, Bmw bods have already publically stated this so there's no mystery there. I can't actually think of any highly regarded sports car that's ever had a folding hardtop and there's good reason for that. Too many drawbacks, too many compromises. 5 to 10 years from now they'll be none or just the SLK. Shame because the concepts great, best of both worlds but the reality is the execution has been such a let down. At the same time the modern fabric roof's are so damn good, apart from the vandalism aspect, the folding hardtop has no real benefit.

Well Mack I don't agree with your analysis, but If you're right i will be switching my allegiance to a Merc ( if its good enough for Lewis then why should I complain)

My only complaint with a folding tin top is the amount of boot space the retracted roof uses - but I didn’t but the car for practical reasons !

The fact that opinion is very divided between soft and hard top just shows that which ever way they go they will alienate 50% of their market.

Surely designers these days can design a basic model that the customer can choose either depending on taste. Result everybody wants one
