Looking for a nice e89 budget is 9k max, not much floating my boat out there atm so if anyone is considering selling soon feel free to pm me, heated m sport seats, pdc and professional stereo is pretty much my only must have, prefer a non black interior but wouldn't rule it out for the right car

I know im pushing it for a 30i at 9k but you never know :D

Coming from a 3.0si I'd avoid a 23i like the plague mate.

I had one for a short while and it was slow as fooook, especially with the roof mechanism in the e89, it really did disappoint. Hold out for a 30i for sure. šŸ‘

To echo what Jamie is saying if your coming from a 3.0SI I would be tempted to up the budget and seek out a 30i or if that's not an option go down the 20i route. £9k should land you a reasonable car, especially as we start heading into the autumn. Or at least test drive any local 23i and make sure you will be happy with the performance before starting an in depth search for the right car spec/colour etc.

I did notice earlier this year when I was looking, a similar spec/mileage 20i was circa £4k cheaper than a 30i. Yes the 30i does sounds better and if this is non negotiable fair enough. Having said that a 20i with a decat and a remap sounds pretty mean in its own right, especially if you make the exhaust valve switchable etc and the power/torque and you get is well in excess of a 30i. Your into the realms of a standard 35i's grunt in a lighter car.

The 20i and 23i are similar in the power/torque stakes on paper. Yes the 23i has a bit more BHP but not as much torque, especially at low revs and it's also worth remembering the 20i is fair chunk lighter, particularly useful as its all saved over the front axle which helps handling.

When we first got our 20i it felt a quite lacklustre in the go department in comparison to my E85 3.0I (mine also runs a 3.68 diff which does liven up performance no end). After its decat and remap the opposite is now true, it's the 3.0i that feels a tad asthmatic in comparison which I mainly put down to the extra low end torque of the turbo 4 pot.

The decat/remap mods have cost circa £600 all in, so my spend is still some way off 30i money. In terms of smoothness mines improved with decat/remap and the new coils and plugs I fitted prior to that have helped and I can honestly say its pretty smooth, there's not a lot in it between my two zeds.

A 30i is my first choice, I just haven't ruled out a 23i due to not being able to test one. I'm not ruling out a 4 pot turbo either but my preference is a 6, I'm trying to find a 23i localish at a dealer just to test drive but there just seems to be a drought locally.. Something will rock up eventually though.

If I'm being totally honest with myself though performance isn't really a priority anymore, I'm generally quite happy plodding about with the roof down although I do like to put my foot down now and again but I still have my two wheeled toys if I want some proper kicks

You kept your Si E85 5yrs or so & if likely to do the same with E89 then id choose very carefully on exactly how it will be used / driven .
The 23i is a decent car but struggle to engage or enthrall you in any way other than being a cheap to buy , cheap to run nice looking convertible .
The 30i is your obvious choice but if ££ is limited then the 4pot 20i should be considered very seriously , there are lots to choose from , easy hitting 275bhp & most likely be less miles & newer than the 6 cylinder models at £9k .
Happy hunting & don't rush in  i think come the autumn values will slide pretty quickly mirroring the economic downturn .

Thanks Andy, sage advice as always, 3.0 6 cyl is my 1st choice but I know how impatient I get when money is burning a hole in my pocket šŸ¤‘šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ I am trying to do the sensible thing and hold out until autumn/winter when I can get the best value for money and the exact spec I want

No apologies necessary John, I was just making a tentative enquiry as it seemed good value, was probably not quite the right car for me in all honesty
