Use the left stalk on the steering column. There must be a vid on you tube. It’s pretty straightforward.Get the engine warm before starting the check. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ts-LcGaIHM

Alternatively, carry a litre of oil in the boot and, when you hear 'Bong' and read 'Add Oil', do so. All of it.
Unless it bongs when you're parked on a hill, then ignore it and check on a flat surface. A friend lived on a hill and everytime I went to his facing downhill, off it would go

What a totally pathetic and useless idea. Serves no purpose whatsoever to the consumer. Bring back the dipstick FFS!

It lets you know the oil level without opening the bonnet

My business partner had the earlier Zed.
The washer stopped working.
I said have you filled the water bottle.
She said i never do, they do it when it is serviced every year.
Didn't know where the bonnet release was either. :o

Excellent idea for 95% of users, who just see the car as a tool and don't want to get their hands dirty.
Only us enthusiasts who actually care tbh.

Given the strange places that some people decide to pour fluids into their engines, I would think the removal of the dipstick goes some way towards counteracting the proliferation of dipsticks behind the wheel.

An old work mate years ago was told to check and add oil to one of the work vans. He was gone for quite some time and when somebody went to check on him they found him dribbling oil into the engine via the dipstick tube. He had never owned a car and didnt have any clue about them.

The other plus of a dipstick was you get a visual check of the oils condition at the same time
....... and a proper car engine smell. :)

When I was an impecunious engineering apprentice I'd walk into all of the bike dealers' "showrooms" (probably over calling it a bit) to gaze at the BSA's and Triumphs I couldn't afford. The smell of the petrol and oil soaked timber floorboards was a part of the magical ambiance that I didn't realise at the time. Fire hazard? Undoubtedly, and they'd never get away with it now.

And what do we smell in a showroom / workshop now?

Money - just money.

Sorry OP, I digress. Nurse is on her way to collect me.

good post, I experienced this, nearly cacked my rompers

While is was on holiday i lent my company car to a girl at work for 2 weeks.
She thought she would do me a favour and top up with oil and petrol on my return.

Yep she filled the engine with oil to the lip and blew up the engine
