E89 non M Sport Mod, Yes or No?

Hi

Planning to respray the front end of my DSB Z4 Non Msport, wanted to have a subtle mod on the front to make it a little more agressive.

Thinking of adding front carbon splitters / replicas and colour code the 2 slats on the bottom side of the intake.. did a quick mock up ... what do you think?

PS might get cheaper fibre glass replica splitters and spray them deep sea blue, anyone bought replica splitters for thier Z4s and whats the look and quality like?

Thanks!

I colour coded the black plastic pieces on the lower part of the bumper a few months ago and I think it looks much better, you can see it in the photos below. I have thought about the splitters but sometimes I think they look great and at other times when I see some photos they look tacked on and don't look cohesive with the design of the bumper. Maybe however if you colour code them to the car it would be better. Have you thought about a front spoiler like the 3D design style?

Thanks, actually that does look great that you colour coded the plastic intake borders as well, agree about the splitters they look good on some angles but look stuck on with others .. I think dark colour cars and colour coded it will look great ...

The 3D design style think it changes the lines of the z4 a bit too much .. but it might look better in the flesh ...

Yep this is the thing unless you can see them fitted to a car in the flesh it's difficult to work out how good they will look. I also worry about how good the fit would be from the cheaper copy parts. But as you say, colour coded they may look good.

Personally I think the splitters look chavy..as usual it’s a personal thing...your paint mockup looks good IMHO

Thanks, some crazy pricing on OEM splitters ... £600 plus

Found some £85 GRP ones from EBay.. at that price worth a punt

Here's another option, looks like a simple screw on job from underneath so can be easily removed if you don't like it anymore.

The mod i did going top to bottom.
I also gloss spray painted the mesh patterned parts, as the plain black plastic always seemed full of dust. Now they always stay black.

Do you not fancy an M sport bumper..? Then add a splitter at a later date if you want more.

Seeing the low bumper reminds of a car where i saw the bumper hooked over the curb. I warned the driver, he said ok mate.
I still wonder if that car still had a bumper when he left.

When you painted the mesh plastic grills at the bottom did you remove them from the bumper? if so how do you remove them? As you say those plastic bits always look dull and dirty so I am thinking to paint them matt black.

I pulled away the border trim and masked off the area and painted in place.
To remove the corner grille would have to remove from behind after taking off the wheel arch liner.
I painted gloss black so always a wet look.
Matt black would be back to square one after a few months.
Being gloss the dirt just washes away.

That looks great, definitely a fan of painting the small inserts body colour ...

That’s another option...although I have SE suspension ... would it look right without lowered m sport springs ?

I don't see why not, from the front it won't make any difference and not much from the side either. M Sport is just 10mm lower.

Thanks all for all the feedback...

I went for some fibre glass splitters from eBay (£90 inc delivery) and the bodyshop is happy to help with colour coding (they are doing some repairs on my bonnet anyway, so have paint)

Looking at few photos on google, painting the splitters and the grill inserts should give the front some definition, plus in deep sea blue, hopeful subtle as well 👍🏻
