E89 New Exhaust tips

Hi all

I have just purchased some new shiny exhaust tips from Amazon for my new E89, the old ones were really dirty and rusty and i did not think they would polish up well.

They were only £23.99 with next day delivery, the old ones needed a bit of persuasion to come off but managed it with a rubber mallet and small piece of wood.

What do you think? Link below.

Cheers Steve

Look good - mine are in a bit of a state similar to your pictures above. I was half tempted to take them off and have at them with a wire attachment stuck in my drill as I've seen some people do - comes up nice and clean looking.

I thought the same but for the cost of new ones it saved a lot of time, i keep looking for things to buy as it is a new car to me but the wife is not too happy about this

I bought some from Amazon over a year ago and they seem to be lasting fine. Easy to slide off and keep clean. Don't throw away your old tips, I had mine polished locally for £18, the result was good...

wow didn't think you could bring them back to look that good, will keep hold of mine just in case.

So those ones are shiny chrome look then?
My original E89 ones seem to be some kind of brushed finish. Can't get much of a shine on that.

the original BMW ones on mine are stainless steel, in the attached photo you can see their condition on the left before I got them polished

Op
Might be my old eyes but I think your left one needs shoving on a bit more, so they sit slightly staggered.

I mean your exhaust tips obviously.........

Technically I think you're right, but I prefer them sitting side by side tbh

Are the tips on the 35i push on or are they fixed.?
The 35i tips are welded about an inch on either side, simple to either hack saw or dremel off. The tips then have to be knocked off with a block and hammer.

Received mine today. They look decent quality for the money. All I’ve got to do now is get the old ones off! 😏

I agree the quality is good and i too was wondering how to get the old ones off, i followed the advice from another forum member and used a rubber mallet and a smallish piece of wood to fit behind the old tips and then gently tapped, they then started to move and eventually i pulled them off with a bit of force.

The new ones i gently tapped on with the rubber mallet until i was happy with the position and job done

Good Luck

Thanks! Now if only I can remember where I put my rubber mallet. 😉 I’ve also ordered a strap wrench so with luck they will come off.

I just squirted it with WD40 and then a tiny tap with a bolster and persuader, it came off in seconds :D
