E89 Msport roof issue

Hello all

Much appreciated help needed for z4 newbie with e89 Msport (62 plate).

I have only recently bought an e89 z4 and I’m facing issues with the roof. The roof warning light appeared a few weeks back, along with an (annoying) beeping noise, so I took it to a local garage.

Long story short, it seems they can’t ascertain the issue other than a code being flagged suggesting the roof was opened whilst the car was travelling (potentially too fast hence resultanting in the problem.) The garage has advised to take it to a specialist / BMW but I was hoping this forum might be able to do elude to a possible issue prior to me booking a no doubt costly inspection.

Note: when resetting the codes the roof works perfectly until the ignition is reset to which prompts the return of the warning light. Also, roof continues to work intermittently.

Has anybody an idea as to what the resolve is here? Has anyone faced anything similar? Any idea as to cost?

Thank you very much for any advice!!

Hello.
Search the forum for roof issues, there are quite a few threads; it's not an uncommon problem. Or just bypass that and introduce yourself and ask for help to hopefully save yourself some cash. Either could work. Good luck with either.

Where in the UK are you? If you try and look up the codes with the likes of Carly you’ll get a clearer picture, but as has been said there are known issues of failing sensors and/or (more likely) broken cable in the loom of the clam section.

Do a bit of searching here to see what I mean. HTH

Invest in a code reader, like Carly or Foxwell for starters.
Problems seem to be either broken wires where they bend or failure of mechanical switches.
Just because a code reader tells you a switch may have failed it's probably a wiring break or connector fault.
Search the forum, lots of study material.
Even BMW can't always fix these roofs properly, my friend hand one inch thick load of invoices of replaced stuff.

My car is with BM at the moment as apparently one or more of the Hall Sensors has failed
Roof works fine most of the time but intermittently it opens/closes very slowly and jerkily

Will let you know how it goes but hall sensors came up on the error codes

But probably the wires are broken, that is why it jerks.
And going to get screwed on extortion price of Hall switch.
