E89 Market watch

I think some owners are seeing the used car prices and putting up speculative ads at the top end of the market, happy to sell it if they can get silly money, but happy to keep it if not. Probably much more prevalent with typically weekend cars like Z4's.

Mines a weekend car - think I should stick it up at £14k :D , then again what could I buy for that which is better than I have

You spend £2k of it on a nice holiday and wait for prices to come back down

leggy but 2012 model in a decent combo for less than some folk are asking for 100k e85s.. couple of bumper repairs and a remap and could be a good buy

That mileage scares me! So does the sellers name TBH. Call me old fashioned but I don't think I could enquire about a car sold by "quality vehicle recycling". I would imagine it could turn up as a cube.

Nice thought but that would get blown on house renovations - £2k will just about cover the tiles for the bathroom :headbang:

Probably sourced it from the dump, will be a right piece of rubbish

To be fair I didn't look at the username  just seen the price and thought it could clean up with a bit of effort and a grand thrown at it

I'm doing that with one of my other cars. I have a guaranteed minimum profit of £3,200 in four months (Try getting that elsewhere on £22k at the moment) . So I'm selling and sitting on the money until prices settle (which they will and got to be sooner rather than later).
I feel like a stockbroker at the moment, waiting for the market to hit it's peak before offloading. I've decided now is the time.

Now is probably the right time to sell and that is a healthy profit.

I have a feeling prices are going to stay high(ish) for a while due to the lack of new metal coming through the system plus nobody wanting to use public transport so driving prices up as well

Still dropping in price - be under £10k shortly from a £12k starting price - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304117672446?hash=item46ced369fe:g:oq0AAOSwHihg~xJ3
Still for sale... blimey, it looks great in the photos and worth 9.5k with a need to tidy the body scratches. if anyone’s interested in the car I do have some photos of the scratches and a few bits of info that may be if interest. It’s a good car for someone with a bit of love and care.

Think if you take a look at that and what Steve was offering at roughly the same money, not certain most would take that one, think it will drop under £10k at the weekend

Prices do seem crazy at the moment.
I recently bought a 2010 56k miles 35i, dct black on black. On 19 rims with new non rft. perfect paint, full BMW s/h, looks almost new inside. It’s had latest injectors, coils, hpfp, and due to an oil leak on the side gearbox, replacement dct box. Even comes with the residual warranty on the car.
It’s an se, which suits me fine
I know I could have waited till winter and the inevitable price drops, but this needs nothing, and is a fab drive. Even at the current market high, £12.5k gets you an awful lot in one of these.

Fingers crossed for more sunny days this autumn!

There are many forces at work here from what I've found, and I have been avidly keeping a check on prices of different cars.
Nearly new cars, of any description are holding value well due to the lack of new cars.
A 10 year old Z4 doesn't come into that category TBH. There are many other forces here (not least the motor-trade's instinctive ability to not miss a trick and maximise their profits). Virtually zero interest rates are helping; savings are earning nothing, finance is relatively cheap (although nowhere near cheap enough). I genuinely think the attitude of "f*ck it, we've had a terrible year, we can't go on our three foreign holidays this year so let's buy a fun car" is a major factor in the mix.

Defo all playing into the mix but zeds are holding well at the moment as can be seen from prices, for some reason the 6 pots seem to be doing quite well despite the 23i being seen as a poverty car (power wise).

The early 4 pots are now in quite a few places cheaper than a 23i unless it is well specced or annual colour

Sean don't put that on the ad when you come to sell your one from one beggar to another :

Oh no it will be the sweet spot in the range when its time to sell, last of a dying breed that's going to be sought after going forward and anyway where can you use all that power unless you live in Scotla oh boy

Sean, pbondar had a chart which highlighted all the E89 models and the type of owner they attracted.... from memory 23i owners were careful sensible people or something like that
