I had the tan leather in my 30i and really liked it - it's not as orangey in the flesh as those photos suggest, IMO. That one does look like better value.

Agreed, it looks like most of what's up there now is either dealers in no rush to sell, and a few privates who probably just advertised them to see if they could get silly money and aren't bothered if they sell at all.

Yeah, think it maybe slowing down a little as we are well into what is supposedly the better weather - not seen much yet mind

Is really about as much as I want to spend, but a few more miles than I ideally want and it only comes with 4 months MOT and there were a few advisories,unless they ve been rectified
Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge Both rear. (5.2.3 (e))
Nearside Front Tyre wearing low.
Offside Rear Shock absorbers light misting of oil or has limited damping effect (5.3.2 (b))
Rear brake discs slightly worn.

Looks nice though and on reflection maybe the tan interior is ok if less orange than the photos

Might be worth asking the seller if he/she is willing to get a new mot on it with all advisories clear. For that price I'd be expecting it to be in tip top condition. Would also be interesting to know what work has been done previously and whether it's currently under any kind of warranty.

Mine had exactly the same suspension advisory a couple of years ago and that cost £2k to be rectified. Add in a couple of discs and 4 new tyres and the car is more like £25/26k.

For that money I would be wanting a new MOT and walking away if not on the car - they probably don't want to do it in case its throws up issues that need sorting.

My only comment is knock lumps off the price if they won't do it based on last years advisories and the same again if it still has the advisories

Based on that it is an £18k car - they are living on cloud cuckoo land if they think anyone is going to buy at that price, way too much wrong for a car at that price level.

It instantly needs £350 for tyres / £150 to get the wheels sorted based on 2 wheels / £400 to get the paint right - £900 already without the suspension which I think will be £800 on top - Cherished by scrooge maybe

No service history either plus a short MOT, sounds like he is just jumping on the band wagon of high prices - better of with a pampered 100k miler IMHO.

AA is correct - get hold of RonK and see what he says on his cherished one or is that white one still up at £23k - the ad disappeared off my Ebay

It really puzzles me why someone can spend circa £50k on a considered purchase and trash it.

I’ll keep this short, price :thumbsdown: , no service history :thumbsdown: , maintained on a shoestring :thumbsdown: and a list of KNOWN faults not even close to addressed :thumbsdown: . Having a £3k bill for my old car for “light misting of oil” on 3 of the shocks I wouldn’t be listening to any p!sh about Halfords’s making a mistake :thumbsdown:

Plenty of better ones about including the ones OGR and I have mentioned.

Well my £800 for the shock was not too far off but I was thinking two sides for that not the one - I would do a Del Shannon and runaway, as I said £18k car max.

I think if he did take it to another Halfrauds (big if) he would have cleaned the oil off anyway - he is selling as he knows he may need to spend a few K to get it through an MOT in a few months time :thumbsdown:

You are correct it’s either Blue or Red
It’s going to be as tough a decision just as much as when I have to sell what was intended to be a keep forever car.

It’s going to be as tough a decision just as much as when I have to sell what was intended to be a keep forever car.

Well you better sort it or they may shut the bloody thing down if you keep going on there looking, blue for me would not turn my nose up at SF red either.

I can see it being tough to sell something you have cherished for 5 years and it will go quickly - CraigP is desperate for a good one

About a grand a corner average. Front ones are cheaper but more labour to fit.

I can’t believe that someone has a car like that and there’s no SH. I feel there may well be but would show it up to be poorly maintained, least possible done when and if needed.

Frightening cost for a shock - no wonder it was not changed but don't try and pull the old it was an error - he is probably hoping no one checks online

Me ether - for the sake of £300 a year average, just bloody do it - what's worse is he thinks someone is going to pay top dollar for it with the listed issues

I would not drive a banger on bald tyres - its the only thing touching the tarmac and not worth the risk at all :thumbsdown:

I looked at it in detail..even cashed in an ISA ready to go..but thought about it overnight and kicked it into touch..mostly for emotional reasons..

For me

1) It felt like I was betraying an old friend that I had lavished so much attention on
2) The price (although the market is buoyant) was a bit toppy..crazy times
3) The fact that BMW didn't change the oil till 25k miles had passed I find difficult to come to terms with as a keeper car
4) For all the cost and effort I would end up with a car with two sets of exhausts .0-60 around 1 sec quicker and not as nice handling
5) For some reason I can't work out the 35i all seem to have a prolapsed bottoms with their rear valance..
6) I'd never get any where the amount I've spent on mine
7) I'd 'have to' spend more re-doing lots of my 'enhancements'

I could do all the mods I did on my car but it would be history repeating itself..


Car is the best ever spec'd AY 35is I have ever seen though..

Car is the best ever spec'd AY 35is I have ever seen though..

I can see why you would find it hard to get rid of yours with the amount of work you’ve put into it, enjoy it a few more years and then get a G29

Sadly for me the G29 doesn’t float my ‘emotional boat’..I can see the benefits of the later tech…the chassis I can see is better than the E89 but I can’t come to terms with the looks..

Anyway I have so many bits now for my E89 I could go to the moon n back ..

Just the fact the guy takes it to Halfords for MOTs would put me off on a car like that - and then goes to another Halfords for a second opinion.

Not a cared for example by the sound of it and best avoided.
