E89 Market watch

I'm considering moving my 35is on. I absolutely love it but I am not using it that much of late due to a bad back. It is a forum car and I bought it from a member here in 2018. Some of you may remember it:

https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=102075

Pro Nav, heated seats, electric mirrors, cruise control, comfort pack etc. Still on the 326's and no cracks. Recent major service and full BMW paper work. Now on 66000 so I've only done about 3300 a year in it. That makes for expensive motoring what with £360 road tax plus insurance.

I will see how I get on with my back these next few weeks. If it doesn't get better I will sell it. I reckon it should go somewhere between 18-20k, what do you think?

Sounds about right to me judging by others for sale. The Melbourne red is a nice colour so could be more desirable.

If you can sell any car after 3 1/2 years for the same as you bought it for, that is not expensive motoring, that is just running costs.

Evening, did you keep the warranty going and if not is is BMW SH?

Yes mate, I kept it going (monthly payments). Yes BMW FSH, not that much cheaper going to indy so I took it to BMW. If I do sell it I will put it up at £20k. I had a look on autotrader, I can't believe the megabucks these - and most convertibles - are going for now! Wow.

Not critical, just my opinion, so technically not got a warranty but the ability for the new owner to continue one if desired (so additional cost to new owner)

When typing my original post I was initially thinking £19,000 with a deal somewhere around £18,500, now because ability to purchase warranty £19,250 with a small amount of negotiation available selling close to either side of £19k.

£20k in my opinion is a touch too high and may not generate much interest as it starts with a 2. Whatever you decide if it was me I’d keep it under £20k the higher priced ones aren’t selling.

GLWTS

That wouldn’t even look good in the dark at 2 in the morning in the middle of nowhere

Yes good idea about keeping it below a 2  . I am not selling it as of now, just yet anyway, just wondered what my 35is might go far in the context of the market watch conversation. I may sell it in a month or so unless I start to use it more.

Not sure what you mean mate, "so technically not got a warranty"?? It has the BMW extended warranty that I pay for monthly. I had to use it once to replace the oil filter housing. A new owner could take on that warranty - which I'd suggest is almost mandatory for one of these cars. I suppose what you mean is that they will not have the warranty that I have paid up front for and they will have to sort it out themselves?

Yes, that’s what I mean, it’s not got a warranty for the new owner because you pay it monthly whereas quite a few that have sold recently have had an annual pre-paid warranty which is transferable, at no cost, to the new owner for the period remaining. My 35iS that I sold recently had 7 months, excess free, warranty remaining on it and I factored that in my ask.

I agree, I wouldn’t buy one of these either without a warranty or the ability to take out/continue one which is why I asked my initial question. It doesn’t reflect on your car just the price point. A similar car with 11 months remaining warranty would fetch slightly more than one without or on a monthly plan

Only other thing is if you’re leaving it at least a month or so you might be missing the high point of the market, all IMO

Cheapest 2015 plate in the UK for a reason - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334045961348?hash=item4dc6b0dc84:g:WScAAOSwu0dgzwGm

Nive colour and decent spec but lots of miles.

So, for anyone whose interested, i bought the car being discussed a few pages back, the one with the dodgy idrive, wonky holes and no reflectors. I wan't on the forum when i bought the car, so obviously never saw the comments about it. Anyway, the owner told me before i went to view about the dummy idrive controller, he didn't like the empty cubby hole so he put the dummy in. Not sure about the wonky holes but there is a wind deflector fitted, don't know if original or aftermarket. I never even noticed about reflectors, are they just stick on bits. White bits in engine bay, don't even know how to release bonnet, and nothing would have registered if i had seen the white bits, skipped the photo on add of the engine, as i know next to f all about engines. I'm pretty mad that he didn't point out i would be a laughing stock with the whippy aerial though.
Overall, pretty pleased with the car and how it drives and sounds

I would take the iDrive controller out - nothing wrong with the cubby there, most e89s have that anyway.

Holes are strange but if a wind deflector is fitted then not noticeable, OEM one is mesh but others are available in perspex.

Reflectors can only be stick on if you cant see any holes in the bumper - on eBay around £20 a side

Whippy versus stubby is just an "in joke" on here. It's about 50-50 for both. You won't be a laughing stock matey, that's reserved for me. :D

Also don't worry about the comments made about the car you bought, we will bitch about anything on this thread; it's just banter. None of us has actually seen the car, so none of it matters anyway. As long as you are happy, that is all that counts.

Every organisation needs a 'whipping or in this case a whippy boy'

Firstly hello and welcome

Secondly you’ll quickly realise that we’re a bunch of cutting, opinionated @rses on here but generally a decent bunch, well apart from [ref]Pondrew[/ref], as he’s already shared himself.

Your new car was originally commented on because of the price, and it’s subsequent hefty drop, and when being looked at the other things were picked up,and commented on.

It was me who commented on the white dust and wonkey holes

As previously mentioned I can’t understand the awful looking false iDrive controller, but an easy fix, bin it and use the cubby hole. Reflectors are an MOT fail so either a breakers or price new ones. The wonky holes, as I previously said, I’m not sure because of the OE wind deflector. Is the actual mesh middle piece there? Have had a further thought that it might be a badly fitted mount for a rear dash cam?’ You have a couple of options here. Flush rubber grommets with a wee bit if mastic to hold them down or again a breakers and see if you can get a replacement rear deck. Don’t know how much would be involved in fitting this though. The white dust, a cleaning agent, a soft brush and a water spray should sort that for you.

The main thing is YOU like the car, how it sounds, how it looks and how it drives so get out and enjoy it :driving:

Well said sir - I am sure people would point out crap on mine if I put some images up and tried it flog at insane prices.

I posted the original ad based on the £13k asking price and strange iDrive controller - liked the colour for certain, still do so just drive it and enjoy it like the majority of us do on here.

Just take a look at the e89 Alpina mentioned on here in the market thread - that bid up to nearly £10K on a cat N (I think), they never made an Alpina e89 so someone just added a few bits of plastic and a badge.

Am I the only one who's considered doing an Alpina "tribute" e89?
