E89 Market watch

Seems expensive as a private sale with partial service history - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174787310383?hash=item28b222b32f:g:hw0AAOSwLeBgtNq3

Also wondered if the iDrive is not working as the cover has the release button for a non iDrive car :?

My suspicion is also that under the bonnet there’s an awful lot of dust that just happens to be the same colour and consistency as body filler :erm:

As you’ve pointed out iDrive not right either, not so sure it’s an original controller either

did not really look at the engine pic - give it a bloody clam or just don't bother, I did wonder on the controller but just could not see what adding a fake one would add to the car as there is no mention of it in the advert :headbang:

I have no issue with the mods - just seemed expensive and wondered what had happened to the iDrive?
Don't like the four exhaust conversion. They never seem to sit right and don't quite fit IMO. :)

I don't really care about that one - just the car seems expensive and nothing special

Ron, I think the rarity/power/desirability of the 35’s make them the benchmark.
I agree. The 35is is the "top of the range" E89 as no M was made, so essentially as a used car it is an E89 "M".
Look at the E85/86 M prices compared to the others. Ridiculous. Even those god awful Z3M bread vans are fetching stupid money, presumably because of the M.
As a used car, the "top of the range" has always attracted higher money, just lately I think there is an investment angle going on.
I have little doubt if I am wrong that someone will politely correct me but, I think the reason for no "M" e89 is that effectively the 35is is specced the same as an "M" would be. (upgraded BHP, adaptive suspension, DCT gearbox) so no need.

That is my understanding as well

So why didn't BM call the 35is a Z4M? Is it maybe to do with timing/ emission regs? All M cars up until 2014 had n/a engines (I think). Then they went away from the V8 and 3.2 six to 3l twin turbo for all M cars. I may be wrong. :)

As the 35is was released in 2010?, I think there was some overlapping marketing going on?

Are there any M cars without an LSD? And with run flats?

I think it comes down to branding - BMW tried "iS" across a few models, didn't they? Then decided to rebrand the not-quite-M cars to M340i etc. The 35iS is probably a Z4 M35i in today's branding, rather than a full fat Z4M.

As for the quad exhausts on a Z4, I think they're fine if you've got a twin turbo straight six under the bonnet to back them up, but a bit silly if not.

I had a 318iS coupe back in 1994. It was a 1.8 16 valve (remember the days when the numbers on the back were relevant to the engine size?), whereas the non-s was 8 valve with about 20 less hp.

Nice mileage but no PDC or iDrive - seems expensive for a 13 plate --- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353521293405?hash=item524f82d85d:g:UqIAAOSw9fxgunjC

Agree about no toys but the low mileage will definitely be boosting the price so probably not far off the market value if low mileage wins over extras to the buyer

I would rather slightly higher mileage and some toys - low mileage is not everything to me

Not enough bells and whistles on this one, you would expect more with this level of this car...

Yeah I had my non negotiable when I was looking - hard top, heated seats, under a specific mileage, manual & blue/black or red & 2.5l

Ended up with all that plus a sat navigation system & a few other things as well. I don’t know what extras were added at sale, suppose I could check on the internet for what comes as standard, but I can honestly say if I miss anything it’s probably a DAB radio because I love my country hits (wife hates it)

I have out of curiosity checked on autotrader for similar to mine for the last few weeks & I’m pretty happy with the price I paid. Did my research & feel both I & the seller got a fair deal

Same for me, wanted Msport / Heated seats / PDC / iDrive / Wind deflector - ended up with an Msport Highline so had all those plus comfort pack / light pack and storage pack at a reasonable mileage and price

My only real thing was not black, silver or gold :o

Looking on internet - I think I paid a sensible price and could get back what I paid at the moment :D

its a lot easier buying a car with all the bits fitted than having to retrofit (if possible) later, but the ingenuity/creativity/ability of some of the members on the forum to do so is amazing... For example I didn't think anyone would attempt the iDrive system but its been done!

Absolutely agree, I’ve said it many times, no iDrive, top of the range hifi or heated seats at that price point is a no for me but on that particular car people will be prepared to pay a premium for the miles

I can see why they would but like you I want the toys that should have been standard on that car from the start :D
