E89 Louder Exhausts

Hi guys,

I couldn't find this is other topics so trying here... First time on the site so please forgive me if it is covered elsewhere!

I've got a Z4 E89 2014 2.0 M sport... Looking to make the exhausts louder but I don't want to fork our for new ones (I saw https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=98454&start=15 thread)

I've seen a few things online about the e86 sound generator & foam removal, inline exhaust valves etc. I was wondering if anyone has had any low cost success with these?

I've also seen a few videos on YouTube which put a nut in the joint between the exhaust and the muffler, but I can't find this joint on the e89 - has anyone had any success with this?

Thanks in advance

Hi, you can leave the exhaust valve in the fully open position to add a bit of growl without sounding like a chav in a Corsa.
The e85 sound generator is specific to those cars & wont fit the n20, I’d ignore anything that advised putting a nut between an exhaust joint, that’s just going to blow and sound rubbish, it’s also an mot failure as well.

There is no cheep fox on this I am afraid. I too would like more sound from the exhaust, ad have completed the golf tee mod. This makes very little difference really.

You are left with a few options, but each carries a price tag.

1) have the front silencers removed from the standard exhaust and have a straight through pipe fabricated in its place.

2) have a custom made stainless exhaust fabricated

3) purchase an off the shelf system from SuperSprint, but make sure you are sat down when you see the price.

I will be going down the custom build route including a decat once the country has returned to normal. I haven’t got a firm price in place as yet as most fabricators understandably want to see the work involved before committing to a price.

Paul the Welder (no less!) had a mobile service modding exhaust, with good results. Appears it is now a workshop so not sure this is practical for you but maybe see what he offers: https://www.exhaustmods.co.uk/

I did contact Paul, and he advised me that the E89 Z4 is not a vehicle that he works on and suggested that I tried a company in London, which I won’t be doing
