E89 keys … did you know?

I’m sure this is in the manual somewhere but I’d never read it before …

Every now and again I would get flummoxed as the settings I gave the different “preset” numbers (e.g. close display, set night mode on satnav, etc.) would inexplicably revert to what they used to be set to. This would happen every now and then and I put it down to the car being a bit temperamental at times …

Until the penny dropped …. In order to keep the batteries in my day to day key and the spare key with some charge in them I occasionally use the spare key, and it’s when I use the spare key that the settings change! Doh! Clever car saves the settings depending on which key you use, which makes sense, but I did not know

I do now!

Not got into using these buttons, never used the spare key in the car but may just try it to see what , if anything, previous owner had set up.
Always hade difficulty remembering how to set Nav with dual screen with map on left and arrows on right. The thermometer type bar within in arrow is one of the best features ,imo, to indicate how far you are from next turn. Button 1 now set up in E89 and E91 to put nav into this mode. Had E91 for 7 years and think one of the keys is set up with previous owners phone nos- hard drive of both got previous owners music choice.
Wonder what checking them all will reveal!

If you have electric memory seats then this can also be set for different keys, eg; Person 1 has drivers seat set to one position and person 2 has it set differently. So when the other driver comes to the car and uses their key then the seat automatically moves when you press the unlock button!! :driving:

In my paper work for car there were stickers to to stick on key back. Usual stuff, 123, A B C, Man and woman, no trans though.....

Lesson don't post at 5am in a morning when you've got up for a cuppa. Of topic
Yes got electric seats (as with previous E46 330ci) and knew about keys changing seat position etc

I found that out soon after my purchase. Spent time going through the menus and found the option for English language, so I changed it.
When wifey drives the car using the spare fob the menu reverts to Japanese, as do any other settings I changed. Quite a handy feature, for her anyway :D

I think E85/6 keys can also be programmed like this as once when I used a spare key I got a different radio station!
