E89 in the snow

Loving the Vredestein all season tyres on the Z3 :)

You want to try their Wintracs on a four wheel drive - My D3 is like a mountain goat - The traction in the slippy stuff is remarkable!

It is some consolation for not being able to drive the Zed I suppose!

First time today the Z3 has ever been out in the snow, I really wasn't sure I had done the right thing fitting all season tyres over full winters but I'm amazed, they really do work :)

Tim.

I suppose its a good comprimise (all weathers)

I know folk in Germany who leave full winters on all year round - Ok if you dont thrash around I suppose. :)

I didn't want my daughter driving on the ice

Although my "little girl" is 30 now, like most fathers I worry about her driving in the slippy stuff. Ive paid and for winters on her car but still worry. I think the next step is a session on a skid pan!

I'm covering around 250 miles in mine on rfts. Set off at 6 this morn. Fine in the snow. I think the automatic suits the snow. You can creep through the deep stuff.

Its a lovely Z3 Tim.

Was out in the Mini last night on RF summer tyres and got quite a lot of snow where I play football but it didn't lay very well. Not even a blip from the TC must have only been 2cm or so but it was very soft and slippery underfoot. Football was fun... Bloody freezing.

My driveway is on an incline and if I cant get the z4 up it then I wouldnt want to drive it , when did use the car yesterday was a little worried about the combination of snow & DCT but didnt encounter any issues , my niece managed to slide her 1 series in to a curb and seems to have done something to the suspension 'as its making a noise' told her not drive it and take to the garage

My 35i went in for a 2 year maintenance just before the snows started around here. I told them to keep it at the dealers until the snows cleared. They keep trying to return it to me :)

Yes I agree with you - I wouldnt want to drive mine back in the snow either.
Next December I will be in the same dilema as its first MOT is due then. :(

So how come some have managed perfectly well in the snow and ice on their runflats whilst others have left their Zed on the drive? For those who have not used their Zed is this a fear of being stuck or you have got stuck? or are you incompetent drivers :? :poke:

I know for a fact mine probably wouldn't have got up our street on a slight incline.

Tim.

I've just finished a week of 800 miles in my zed. My conclusion is that a number of drivers (across the board) just don't have a clue how to drive in snow. I've driven around front wheel drive cars getting stuck on 2 " of snow.

I think a lot depends on the conditions themselves, and also the condition of the tyres, even the standard ones. I had an Astra hire car on Wednesday and with 16k miles on the (presumably original) fronts they were completely shagged, I was halted by an inch of snow because I was the first one onto it, and had to turn around before I binned it, it was all over the place.

I've driven in snow all my life so it can't be a lack of talent on my part :P
