E89 Handling?

Breaker, Spot on.
Even a fiesta going 70 down country roads will catch you up after blasting up to 60.

I had several 2.5l 0-62 in 6.4s before and I still do the same times or am still late depending on traffic in my 28i 0-62 in 5.6s. But its more fun in the few times I change gear.
 
I read a lot of car magazines like we all do and I have to say I don't trust them entirely.
I bought an r56 cooper S just as they came out and read so many reviews saying how harsh the suspension was , blah blah. I did sixty thousand very comfortable miles in three years in it. It had sublime damping but maybe got a bit "thumpy" on bad and broken surfaces.
Then, my mate got a Clio 200 with the cup pack a few years later. This is a car that no car journo can criticise. Of course I was looking forward to experiencing the lithe flexibility of the Clios suspension because no motoring hack had ever said anything bad about it.
Imaging my shock when it felt like it had no tyres or suspension, and its exhaust made a sound like an industrial tumble drier.
And it's interior was appalling!!
Hacks talk s**t.
 
My thoughts exactly breaker; the e85 2.0i got sooooo much stick from people driving 6-cyls when I bought mine, but when it came down to meet write-ups the comments were only ever positive about how they never got left behind in real driving conditions, despite being over 100bhp down...

I personally don't find the handling of the e89 that amazing, it's certainly not bad, but nt what I'd call a sporty set up - however this is fine as I also don't consider a z4 a sports car, so I'm more than happy within.

As for the cayman, I had a gen2 cayman before the z4 which handled amazingly, but blew up on 6k miles and the engine went in the bin, so it's swings and roundabouts. I'd rather have a reliable engine any day over car that handles well.
 
I'd love a TVR but I'd only buy one if I could justify having it for weekends only! I wouldn't trust running one as a daily car! Perhaps when I get too old for the motorbike!
 
Yes I must admit I'm a little disappointed with the handling of the 35is, however in my garage it has alot to live up, LOL.

HOWEVER, 4 simple mods would sort it:

1) Ditch the run flats!!!!
2) Eibach pro kit Springs
3) Anti Roll bars, possibly H&R
4) A Quaiffe LSD
 
I have 23i with 17inch non run flats. I ain't no speed freak these days, but i do wish the steering felt better. Its about the only thing that spoils my enjoyment of the car. (Not taking into account other issues).
