I do not believe the functionality exists unless it was specc'd into the car to start with.
I recently fitted a SmartTop and was unable to get it to work, flashing the red error LED and introducing a fault condition on the Z4's diagnostic read out which stayed even after removing the ST.
Guaranteed to make your blood run cold on an 8 month old car.
I had to take the car to a well respected BMW specialist to have it interrogated and the faults cleared. Being the useful bloke he is he then offered to see if the functionality existed in the original programme to get the self folding mirrors and roof up from the remote to work, which was all I wanted. Diving deep into it's programming he found the code lines and there were no further options available other than those the car came with. Put's BMW in the cheapskate dept for this one. It would have cost them nothing to include it - all the hardware is there.
I believe the chip is flashed according to the market and vehicle spec at the time of manufacture, similar to the way an Eprom is burned and then that's it! If you could get hold of an up-spec programme and the tools and expertise to load it you may have a solution.
It's a shame Smarttop didn't work. Would have solved everything.

Smarttop appears error too...too bad.
But i saw many forum n video SmartTop works well...

The ST manufacturer in the US (mods4cars) were quite helpful and prepared to try to get to the bottom of the problem. I'd followed the installation instructions (and the instructions from the helpdesk) to the letter but still it wouldn't work and I wasn't prepared to experiment further on my new car.
I suspect I may have copped for a duff module - but unproven and pure speculation on my part. There appear to be very few unhappy customers........................

I've no idea what your problems were, but I've fitted SmartTop to a 2009 35i & a 2014 28i with absolutely no problems at all. Mirrors fold / unfold on locking / unlocking car, and roof opens & closes with one press of the key

I believe mods4cars would have tried to help further but when their help desk gives you a line that reads "just put everything back to stock and take the car in to have BMW figure out the problem with the errors" you realise that it's the end of the road.
Let's have a vote on how interested BMW would be in sorting this for me? And another vote on how they'd be if I took it back a second time because I'd tried to install the module again?
And you know the sheet they fill in where it reads "Has this idiot voided his warranty by messing about with the car?"
I was fortunate to have a skilled independent not too far away who wiped the errors. After he'd put the car "back to stock" I tried again with him alongside. Guess what?
I'd have loved for it to work as it would have solved a couple of issues. It's a great product when it works, as I'm sure it does for most people.

Well, I will rule nothing out, BUT - the plugs that come with the SmartTop bridging loom (well made by the way, if a bit stiff) are BMW proprietary items so you would reasonably expect that they are as robust (or otherwise) as the OE on the car. I say "or otherwise" as according to ST they are a known cause of failure.
A last ditch method is to remove the 2 interior plugs (that you are referencing) from the outer casing and connect them directly into the car control module, or in ST's own words:-
"Once the errors are gone, you can try again to install the module. You definitely should NOT get a blinking RED LED on the module. If you see a blinking RED LED, then it means that the convertible top controller module is not responding and the plug/connector is not making proper contact. Unfortunately this is a very annoying design flaw in the connectors and many customers have reported this. The success rate after removing the plastic cover and carefully inserting just the internal connector deep into the socket (thereby making sure it goes all the way in and all pins make contact) has been 100%."
This may well provide a fix but there would then be no mechanical "lock" on the 2 connector blocks to keep them in place, so would have been fine to prove/disprove the theory but "not a proper job" as vibration over time would inevitably work them loose (which is why BMW lock them in).
Those who've been through this will understand.
So against the background already explained and after lighting up the error codes I decided that SmartTop vs £296, plus a few quid for the independent to put things right and a plug in solution that might come loose and throw up more error codes - was starting to look like an easy question to answer.
I did suggest to the vendor that he have this returned module checked out, and not just send it out again, but it's been a good couple of weeks now and I've heard nothing back. If I had it confirmed that the module was at fault - I'd maybe think again. But I'm not going through that again for anything.
