True, but it would also alert you to where it is providing there is another bluetooth device nearby. Presuming the tag has contacted the thief it would suggest there is.
There is a way it can be disabled to prevent stalking but the thief has to find it first which even if it takes a few minutes you will know where your car is. Its not a replacement for an anti theft or commercial tracker but I use it as a back up. The main reason I have airtags is for luggage, using it in the car costs nothing
