E89 DRLS on Key

Hi guys, I have swapped my DRLs over to the Bimmian LED set up and all working fine. Sadly, my DRLS have stopped coming on when I unlock the car with the key. This is the same with the rear as well.

Has this happened to anyone else at all or does anyone know a fix for this?

This is the car prior to doing the LCI wing indicator update

Headlights need to be turned to auto.

The battery also needs to be decently charged.

If the battery drops below a certain level of charge, that feature gets deactivated.

Just drive it around a fair bit, or plug into a ctek.

Thanks. Lights were in the auto position! Perhaps it’s the charging element - I also have the following warning message come on once a week ‘increased battery discharge’

Thinking a ctek will fix this?

If it’s coming on one a week you may have a problem with something draining the battery or a dud battery, if the battery is faulty then a charger isn’t going to fix it, how much are you driving it at the moment? Perhaps it just needs a good run to get it changed up

Has only been driven for one day at weekends now that we’re past summer! Have now been driving it daily and the message has disappeared but the lights still not coming on :(((

How would I realise if something is draining the battery? I think I am going to replace this as, I have had this issue for a while. And cannot open roof from key either. New battery then ctek required me thinks.

Only upgrade I have done is the lights and stubby Ariel - doubt they would drain the battery?

My cars been laid up a while and this little baby seems to do the trick for trickle charging and holding charge.

Worth a try

Got myself a CTEK Pro MXS10 and had it on all day running a reconditioning programme. According to the CTEK it was successful - just need to try it out later on!

Thanks for the advice!

After charging has finished mine does not come on automatically sometimes.
I put the key into the slot and toggle auto off and on, then remove the key.
After that, it all works fine.

I checked the vin of my new-to-me Z4 and I see these:
8S1 Daytime Running Lights Decoding
8TM Daytime Driving Lights On Engine St

However I don't see any DRL switched on. The auto lights are working fine when it gets a bit darker, is this a similar issue I see in this thread, maybe battery?

I'll half answer my own question, may help in the future....
The VIN code information is incomplete, it should be
8TM Daytime Driving Lights On Engine Start inactive !! The German "Tagfahrlicht Bei Fahrzeugstart Inaktiv"

So, they are switched off. So, the other one "8S1 Daytime Running Lights Decoding" I'm guess is a coding option to turn the DRLs on?

Never coded before, where do I start?

You need a laptop/ OBD11 cable and software, (NCS Expert) have a look at the Bimmergeeks website

There’s also plenty of tutorial videos on YouTube

Thank you, I may give that a go. I found a Japanese blog where someone had the same questions and he did just that.
Not sure why it's the case here, not aware of any law against DRL. Any of the OBD / android apps like Protool any use for this?

Sorry for the thread hijack

For my problem I eventually went the Bimmercode route, I managed to change the settings in the screen, previously I had no option for daytime driving lamps.... then it appeared.
There also seems to be multiple settings for DRLs :o
