E89 Dipped Lights

Does anyone else feel the dipped headlights are a bit lacking ? we came home from a Wedding last night over some country roads at about 23:00 and I was struggling to see the road ahead on dip, whilst the full beam is outstanding, I mentioned it to me Missus who agreed .

They are HID`s but on dip they dont seem to light the road up to a great distance, whereas on full its like daylight ..

And with the state of the roads in Derbyshire I need all the light I can get to dodge the plethora of potholes we seem to have..

Lift bonnet, look behind the head light. You will see a white object with a hexagon hole. Just find something that will reach and screw to adjust vertical aim.

If you think they're poor on dipped beam - wait till you try them with beam deflectors when driving in Europe

Part of the problem with HID is the narrow frequency of light.
The dip must use a shutter which gives a very sharp cut off of light so no overspill like halogen.
Plus the lack of curb illumination because they have no lenses (therefore no need for beam deflectors).

I just adjust them up so I am comfortable without getting too many flashes from oncoming traffic.

That's not what Bmw issued tech bulletin says!

Hi TBH No as I dont go out in it in the dark very often, so had forgot I had a problem :( perhaps as winter approaches it might become an issue again, from what I remember it looks like a large(ish) Allen key is needed and my motley collection didnt quite come up to the mark, or perhaps a large flat bladed screwdriver
