E89 cup holder arm rest tray + phone cradles

It did take a good bit of gentle persuasion to get that square black plastic block to slip into the hole (my first thought was: bugger, it's not going to fit). It's hard to say for sure but it does look like the white square box underneath in your photo is pushed more toward the left than the right - giving you less room to play with unfortunately.

Having said all of that - and this will make many readers cringe - I would have been fully prepared to just snip the damn lead off to hide it neatly away as I don't think anyone would ever realistically get any use out of the cradle in the future (the exception potentially being any people who use compatible iPods in the cradles - but even that is old school tech really).

I'm going to try lifting the console slightly and see if I can pull the cables through and stow them neatly underneath, then buy the rubber mat.

....thats the plan at the moment! I think it will be difficult to get it through the hole, but its got to fit.

Ouch at the thought of cutting the cables!!! NO!!!!!

I use an iPhone 5 se as an iPod player in that mode with 256kbs aac encoded music...sounds fantastic much bette than mp3 or Spotify etc.,

Round these parts relying on an internet connection is folly..

Haha, there we go - further evidence that all my advice should be ignored

(and you have functioning album art using that iPhone as we've established elsewhere!)

That’s the problem with the ‘yoof’ of today...went downhill once they started putting trannies (transistors not transvestites) into car radios instead of ECC83 valves

trannies, love it!

Yippeee!

Fitted!

Lifted the console as suggested and was able to feed the cables underneath and out of the way. Actually moved them to the other side of that white box thing. All done by feel so hope I haven’t stuffed something else up! Checked all the buttons/iDrive control after refitting everything but not checked the usb/aux/12v socket under the armrest yet. I’m going to get the rubber mat instead of refitting the phone cradle.
